I know that you know your stuff, but you’re a bit off the mark with some things here. In my experience of fitting lift kits to many of my 4wds, the ride will always become softer (unless there’s a GVM upgrade as part of it) because the aim is to provide a more compliant ride off road and to give the suspension more flex making it easier to keep all 4 wheels planted. Also that vehicle looks like it’s been raised too far because the front wheels are leaning a bit at the top. But as you mentioned, it’s probably designed to carry a Bullbar. Suspension that high is a disadvantage on steep uneven climbs as they pick up a wheel far more easily and lose traction. It’s great that you tested a modification that so many people choose to do. It’d be great if you could put together 3 or 4 (Hilux, Ranger, D-Max, Triton) of the most popular utes and do a full outback test with different brands of aftermarket suspension kits fitted to each. To my knowledge, no one has ever done that before. I think there’s a huge interest in comparison between the kits as well as the vehicles. Love the channel. Keep up the good work.

Looks fantastic-good review. We currently have a previous (5 year old) version of the Amarok and an older 2.0 litre TDI Golf. Both have been faultless and wonderful vehicles. The 11 year old (230,000km) Golf is still driving like a new car. We hope to be upgrading to the V6 Style Amarok soon. Terrific that the prices have come down quite a bit. Whilst test driving the new V6 Style recently I tested out the complaints with the "SCREEN' climate controls (as Paul once again highlighted) expecting it to be distracting and annoying, but honestly, found it very simple and surprising easy and quick. I tried all aircon setting. It seems that some people love to nit-pick at anything at all. Also like the DMAX but is less refined with less power but cheeper too. Lots of good options.

In low range these vehicles start off in second gear unless manually set to first. First gear low is very very low, much slower than most other utes whether fitted with auto or manual gearboxes. The 10 speed auto is amazingly well tuned but can be somewhat odd when changing down a ratio in low range while moving down a steep hill. In my experience it’s best to manually select a ratio and not to change down manually down a steep hill because in certain circumstances it can lose drive for too long between ratios. Otherwise absolutely superb.
@paulredfern22526 ай бұрын
a really close look at both utes in wheel articulation, the old had more compression travel, both had the same unlaiden travel, and the standard ute sat flatter. But the extra clearance and ride quality is good with new ute.
@hedydd26 ай бұрын
Climbing into these things is no joke when you get to a certain age or get a bad leg or back. It probably also knocks a few grand off the residual value of the truck. The tow ball also needs to be lowered and reaching stuff in the load bed becomes a pain. Great base vehicle though but a lift is not for me. Just too many negative compromises.

@@catamircea8885you're correct about the minimum ground clearance. This is usually the rear diff "pumpkin" or the rear shock mounting brackets, which aren't changed by a lift kit. However, the approach, departure and ramp-over angles and relevant clearances are increased, so there's definitely some benefit. Also, lifting the suspension can help to fit in slightly taller tyres, which will then increase the clearances to the shock mounts and diff pumpkin.

With some larger, meatier tyres, lifts are just great! But I think its worth noting that the articulation isn't really much more with the lift, even though the lift can provide much more suspension travel, it's the sway bars that ruin the offroad articulation. I think more manufacturers need to produce quick-disconnect sway bars for mainstream 4by's, especially the IFS Ute's.

Interesting that you're stating that adding the likes of suspension lifts and accessories such as snorkels (you didn't go into bull bars, winches, lights which I would consider to be the most common after-market item in this review...) may void the new car warranty. The information I've had from suppliers such as ARB and Ironman 4x4 is that as long as the items are installed to compliance (ADR specifications etc..) there is no impact on the new car warranty. Whilst the new car warranty is often 5 years+, after market accessories are often only 3 years. It would be good if you could build on this segment and go and interview a reputable after market supplier and get their feedback as well. FYI, I am looking at trading in my 2003 Prado in the next year for an Amarok v6 Style, and I am considering after market products such as the raid bar, winch and lights, along with a 4" lift and different all terrain tyres. I would be interested in knowing how this will not only affect my warranty but also my servicability? Volkswagon offer a 5 year service agreement with their new cars. Do I also need to take this into consideration?...

Serous paint defects, mine so bad mine VW had to have several panels repainted. Also be careful of depreciation, mine has already lost 35% of its value in just ten months.
@hedydd26 ай бұрын
Spare parts availability for both VW and Ford just suck so far. There is hope that this will improve with time and as they get their act together to increase stock. I suspect that their parts suppliers and Ford themselves are at capacity at the moment building parts for the production line. They ignore parts supply and quality and back-up at their peril though. It takes a lot of effort to get a positive reputation but it is easily lost if the owner’s experience is poor and word soon gets around in this connected age.

@@Rooler694 the Amarok is built in the same factory as the Rangers that go to Europe and Britain, using the same chassis, same suspension, same driveline components, same brakes, same cabin structure, etc. The parts have "FoMoCo" (Ford Motor Company) stamped into them, just as the Ranger does, and most of the underlying parts even have the same part number (stick your head under one and check it out for yourself - they're the same vehicle). The main difference compared to the Rangers we get in Australia, as far as the underlying vehicle is concerned, is that it's assembled in Silverton instead of Rayong. From my time as an engineer with Ford, working on PX to PX3, I found that there wasn't much difference between the quality of the vehicles from Rayong and the vehicles from Silverton. If anything, the guys in Silverton were easier to work with because there wasn't a language barrier to make things more difficult (that isn't casting aspersions against the guys in Rayong - English simply wasn't their first language). So... what was it that you were saying about the VW being built in South Africa?
