Am I missing something or what? Why are a lot of people so upset about the 0-100 times?? you are buying a 4X4 not a Audi RS6... How quickly it can get to 100 is irrelevant unless of course your a Yuppie who owns one and never takes it out for what it is actually built and designed to do. What is more important is how well it travels, yes on the road but more importantly how it handles and travels off road. I personally think the carpet is a great idea. I would assume it is all weather carpet but with it being carpet that should stop items from sliding around under normal driving. A good review thanks :)

Bedrugs (marine carpet tub liners) have been around for decades, they're actually quite durable and are much better than the plastic liners for preventing cargo from sliding around, they can be pulled out and hosed off without issue.

I have bought a 2021 Hilux Cruiser NZ ( Rouge) and its fliping great love it . I live in the county (Wellsford ) and the road are sh@#t , but the Hilux Cruiser is like riding a magic carpet (not carpet in the back a liner) I have a very bad back problem and was concerned about the ride but when I test drove the Hilux it was a great ride. I went with all the bell and whistles and I am very happy . This is the fifth Toyota I have owned . Long live the Hilux :o) Great review . Cost $68.349 NZ$

Hello, Paul. I really appreciate that you mentioned how good the air conditioning is. I recently had the opportunity to spend a day in the passenger seat of my friend's RAV4 and the AC was the top thing that impressed me. You don't feel it blowing on you. It's designed to diffuse the air and maintain the 'climate' temperature that you have chosen. Great video! (This is my second CarExpert video. I subscribed a few hours ago after watching your Amarok review. New subscriber here. Now I have a lot of videos to watch...)

I still drive my 2005 Toyota Hilux. The odometer has almost reached 300000km. Still going strong but I've been considering getting a new Hilux. Thanks for the informative review. Helps a lot in deciding which one to get. But I am not sure the Rogue is available here in Papua New Guinea. We do have the SR5s though.

Have tried to be the voice of reason, $70K? Nah. And people laughed at Mercedes. $40K is ridiculous for what are essentially light trucks. Profit margin must be astounding. Don't get me wrong, I have a ute and I love it. Each to their own on infotainment but the safety tech attitude worries me. It should never replace the ability to read the traffic and make good decisions, or acceptable vehicle control. Yet these days people go on as if these features are the difference between life and death - perhaps if driving is not your primary focus........ How did we ever survive all these decades without it? I can't even remember the last time my ABS kicked in. The issue isn't the tech so much as the attitude that its the only factor at play. In the end, absolutely sure its a good vehicle but it seems the mobile phone marketing and upgrade hype has hit the vehicle segment. Of course, great review as always.

Why do manufacturers come so close to giving us what we want. This needs ventilated front seats, memory drivers seat functions, a 360 camera and Toyotas crawl control while being just slightly bigger and wider. But nope they all build the same thing with different styling and charge the earth thinking "let's wait and squeeze a little more out of em before we add one thing at a time every 6 years".

Or are theres customers idiots .. most likely..haha.. off road Hilux got better traction control but if you switch rear locker front traction disengage.. not good in very difficult terrain 👎👎 and tell me are you gonna use it more on or off road ... on statistics more then 90% use it on road only 10% off road ..... 70k for this? Honestly quite disappointing, considering it doesn't drive as well as some of the other utes in this segment and isn't as high tech. That carpet lined bed is cool though. IMO, a luxury/lifestyle Hilux simply doesn't work because the Hilux is one of the more work-focused utes like the Triton and old D-Max. This "Rogue" is trying to be something it just isn't. If I were looking for a lifestyle ute, it needs to be comfortable, high-tech, and modern. But for work, the Toyota dealership network is more important to me as well as long term reliability. That's why the Hilux doesn't make sense in this luxury/lifestyle trim.

@@denero4735 There is no best ute because everyone has different needs and wants. Some utes do better and worse at some stuff than others. The Hilux is a best seller because most people buying a ute just want the looks/name. I personally drive a Fortuner and used to think it's the best, but I realized later that it has its share of pros and cons as well a other vehicles. I realized then that there is no absolute best. That being said, I still think the Rogue is underwhelming considering the price. The "reason" why the Hilux is the best for you (probably Toyota dealership network, reliability etc) is not enough for me to justify its ridiculous price. If I'd buy a Hilux, I would probably only consider the SR. If I'm buying a more expensive ute, I'd look elsewhere. Can't wait for the GR Hilux though!

Much prefer a dark interior for vehicles and aircraft; it increases visual attentiveness... Pretty funny how Toyota used to get criticism for their “bland interiors” and how they should be dark like an Audi - now their “apparently” too dark 😂 Also, would it not be more prudent to check reliability studies rather than wobble the centre console bin? That was pretty funny comparing the Toyota build quality to that of Audi/Volkswagen by wobbling a centre console bin; when in reality Audi sits at 21 and Volkswagen at 29 on the JD Powers vehicle brand reliability study 😂

Good review as always. I just think a little more effort for the off-road segment is required. In the dry, with a competent driver, this is simply not a challenge, and that includes the descent. No need for rock crawling, but you simply wont find differences in off-road ability on this @test track@ a VW Beetle would easily handle.

Carpeted loadbay? So, this is skewed towards lifestyle vehicle and not workhorse? I'm genuinely interested to know who this spec of Hilux is targeted at (no sarcasm, I'm intrigued)

Same. Hilux is synonymous to workhorse, and making a lifestyle/luxury version of it just doesn't work.

Don't call it a commercial vehicle in the same sentence as government incentives because as its payload is less than 1000 kg it is treated as a passenger vehicle and the depreciation cost limit of $57,000 applies you will also have to do logbook to be able to claim any real deductions..you also can't claim back the full amount of gst because of this less than 1000kg payload

Definitely is when you consider the factory extras to match it if you got an SR5. Here is what you’re getting in a rogue: - Auto Roller shutter ($3500 aftermarket minimum) - Fridge plug ($350 option) - Integrated lighting in tub and central locking - Leather seats ($2500 premium interior option on SR5) - Tow bar wiring and tongue ($400 option on SR5) - Dust and water proof tray (SR5 does not have this) - 360 degree camera on late 2021 models - Upgraded sound system - Dual zone climate control

Great review on a car that has been replaced as king of the hill. It’s incredible how far the segment has come that there are 4-5 top contenders now. Am sure Hilux (great as it is) will be #1 seller again. However, after driving the Hilux, Ranger, Triton, BT50, DMax got my money and couldn’t be happier.
