Great video,,,, This is a very simple transmission, Forward Reverse clutch pack, Rev Carrier and a Belt. Frictions looked good. Oil Pump in sump stays primed, With the oil cooler off you could overfill it with new oil and push a drain elbow in the "To Cooler" port and flush the Converter easy enough, get a complete flush.They use a Cycloidal pump which is very durable. If they could figure out the belt duty cycle this would be bullet proof. My grandson just got a 2015 Civic EX with one of these and the programming is very good. Butterfly(Paddle) shifter that work great and is very cool. The Bands that hold the belt segments together is breaking because of fatigue(Duty Cycle) or shock loads. That's the main problem it looks like or this transmission would still be going. Again, thanks for the look inside. Retired Ind. Allison Trans. Specialist

one question, i found some particles of the belt in my oil filter, them, i wanted to change the belt... can i change the belt for the rear part without disarm all the front tranmission? (the turbine and clutch packet part)
@robertjackson7590
@robertjackson7590 Күн бұрын
@@17fjavierc After watching it again it looks like you can, Remove the pan, valve body and back cover. You need to remove the large nut you see on the belt shaft and that should allow you to install the new belt. I can't tell if it's left or right hand threads, be careful with that. YOU MUST get every segment and trash out of the transmission. They did well in design keeping the front section separate from the belt side. The front side looks like it will outlast the belt 3X. At 10:29 he removes the back cover, pull it straight off because the small oil supply sleeves that fit in the belt shafts can be broken off if you get it too far out on one side. When it's 2 inches away you'll be clear and no problems. I haven't done this particular trans but I've seen it in others. Don't drop parts bc you nick them and cause other problems after it's assembled. You have to check the pulleys for damage caused when the belt failed, check them very closely for nicks and gouges. Other than that it looks simple. I'd try it too, save a lot of work and money. This transmission is not going to like shock loads, if you see someone revving it up and dropping it in gear you won't get it to last for them, that's abuse.
@robertjackson7590
@robertjackson7590 Күн бұрын
Looking at this it came to me if you get the large nut off the belt won't be long enough to fit in one side(pulley) and still climb over the other shaft. It's looks too tall. You'd need to get both pulleys apart to accomplish what you want to do. You'd have to try it. The belt is directional so pay attention which way the inked on arrow points. One thing I did some more research and one mechanic said they were able to double the belts life by using Amsoil CVT oil. I'm a firm believer in Amsoil and will be getting some in my grandsons Civic CVT. He's got around 112K miles but better late than never. Here's a video about the belts assembly you'll find interesting but this guy mentions that the metal belts holding the elements together has more of them for heavier applications and will last longer in the Civic. Like ordering/using a belt for an Accord for a Civic it sounds like. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hprag4ice6qWa80

@@17fjavierc Interesting video showing the top pulley apart @ 1:13 kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZS1YneVmb2bec0 You need the special male socket to get the other pulley off. I haven't found a video that shows it apart but that's what needs to happen to swap this belt.

Thanks for showing. Our 2016 HRV EX-L CVT just crashed. It's my wifes car and only 88k miles when the CVT destructed. Honda says lifetime fluid but that's irresponsible. Honda has an extended Warranty but they would not do anything for us being 3 months out of the extended warranty (for this known defective transmission). This will be our last Honda based on the poor reliability, high cost of replacement, and Honda not helping at all for their poor quality and design. We have had 5 Hondas all early models that were very reliable but the newer ones had less quality and especially this 2016. Thanks for sharing the destroyed junk Honda CVT.
@MrSamPhoenix
@MrSamPhoenix 10 ай бұрын
Yeah, don’t listen to the manufacturers when it comes to “lifetime” statements. We own a 2014 Honda Accord 2.4L with the CVT. It’s been a wonderful car for a decade. And the CVT has been amazing. But I must admit, I do a drain and fill of the CVT every three oil changes. This has kept the transmission happy for all these years. 88k is too extreme of a fluid change interval. It was bound to break around that mileage without ever being serviced.
@hitbyGROSJEAN
@hitbyGROSJEAN 9 ай бұрын
This is why every time I go shopping for a car (doesn’t matter which brand) always and I mean ALWAYS ask about transmission service history and for proof if possible. Most people do not service the transmission and then they think “oh the quality must not be good anymore”. Honda CVTs have generally been good but changing the fluid every 30,000-50,000 miles is crucial for long lasting performance. Unfortunately with most newer cars, the transmissions are sealed and cannot be opened unless you have a hoist and special tools to check. I’m glad my 2006 Accord has a transmission dipstick. P.S., CVT fluid gets dirtier faster than regular geared automatic transmission fluid.

Currently, only Toyota is known to make reliable CVT's in their hybrids. You can look it up...plenty of hybrids that have surpassed 200K without much issue. In Chicago there are many Toyota hybrid cabs, and cabs typically aren't "spared". So go for a Toyota/Lexus hybrid and you won't have any issues.

The Toyota CVTs are not belt driven CVTs either. They are eCVTs which are mechanical gear driven transmissions and not the absolute junk of these new Honda/Subaru and Nissan CVTs. The Toyota Hybrid eCVTs are rock solid and can outlast the life of the car. Fluid changes are easy but critical. They are critical for the Honda CVTs too but Honda says lifetime fluid which contributes to failures. Now Honda has backtracked and says change every 30k (which they should have done all along if honest). Our transmission shop nearby sees lots of failed Honda CVTs and advises there will likely be a class action lawsuit for this garbage.

Toyota from 2019 cvt s are different .they istalled first start gear in cvt to avoid belt failure. when car starts the first gear makes car to move ,after that we will see belt in action after 30 kmh .of course every transmission needs to get fluid changed at most 40k and this oil must be original brand fluid that manufacture claims . Not many people with cvt failure want to admit that mostly cvt or regular automatic transmission failures are because of outdated maintenance or car usage in extreme conditions .

I've got a Honda Jazz/Fit from 2005. Very slight judder when I take off. Not an issue really. I've changed the fluid, no change. I've considered using the Xado EX120 additive which has amazing reviews for my car for this issue. But I'm just curious to know what people think causes this issue? Apparently there is some gear teeth that may be worn, or starter clutch issue. Thoughts anybody? :)
@boomerguy9935

That Honda Jazz/Fit has a regular automatic transmission instead of a CVT. Apples and oranges. I have a 2009 Fit and a 2016 HRV. Each has a completely different transmission. Even though the Fit shifts more abruptly, I prefer it over the CVT which always seems to be hunting for the correct gear ratio. Honda did a recall on my Fit's CVT to check if there was any damage. The local Honda garage checked it, re-programmed it and extended the warranty to 150K miles. It shifts better than before (not so much hunting for the correct ratio) but it still shifts like a CVT. So far, so good.
