Hello From The Sea !!!!!
Welcome to the Episode 4 of Horizon Tales
Shipping Industry is the Back bone of Supply Chain. Around 80% of volume of International Trade in goods are carried by the Ships.
This VLOG is about one such Cargo shipment.
We loaded around 170,000 MT of Iron Ore from Australia and our Discharging Port was fixed in China.
Bulk Carrier ships are designed to carry huge amount of Ore cargo in Bulk. Our Vessel is a Cape Size Bulk Carrier.
We usually load Iron Ore in Bulk from Australian Port and discharge the cargo in Chinese ports.
Trie my best to showcase the whole discharging operation and Life of seafarers druing Cargo Operation.

This is an amazing video! I can’t wait to show my young grandson the viewpoint of a ship’s officer as he climbs ladders, shows the giant grabbers at work, directs the pilot to the bridge, and all the other things involved in unloading a mega ship! Thank you for these images, I would never have believed we could have such close access to a modern bulk ship in a 21st century port!

Thanks chief officer. That was great to let this see. A lot of people see this kind of ships sailing in and out off the port of Rotterdam but they don't know what happens on board. Greet from a portworker in the port of Rotterdam. ( EMO )

They are more suited for Great Lakes where they have a consistent port

Thank you so much for going though bulk cargo discharge 😊 very interesting hatch and ladder system to enter/ exit bulk cargo area 😊 do they use any other type of assistance heavy equipment in getting that last bit of iron ore I saw an excavator in hold, do you use a Dozer or front end loader also, just asking 😊❤

Yes they use bulldozer and bobcat at the end of discharging operation to collect remaining cargo.

Thanks for an informative vid. I just can’t work out how the off loading grabs can pick up the last of the grain loads. I saw too that there was iron ore deposits/remains in the holds after the hold was declared empty. Does that mean the hold is contaminated for the next load? Or will it be cleaned out for a different cargo? It’s all very interesting. Thank you for sharing.

Glad to hear from you. Near the completion of discharging, bulldozers are lowered into the Cargo Hold to collect the cargo from the sides and then transfer it into the crane's grab. Stevedores usually shovel the cargo as much as they can and collect near to the grab. If in case we are scheduled to load different grades of cargo, then After departure, we carry out Cargo hold cleaning and washing.

Yes holds were almost 70% full.

Hello, Great video. Which are the better type of cranes and could you explain why? We are looking at a gantry STS crane for bulk discharge and working container ships.

Yes gantry crane is better as time to discharge the cargo and hatch to hatch transfer is faster.

Just wondering how much it would cost a company to ship iron ore from Australia to China is such large bulk carriers. How many ton of ore do they carry? Do you come empty from China to Australia or do they find something else?

Shipping freight of the Cargoship depends upon the Market value of Cargo, at that particular. Usually the rate of Iron ore is around 85-100$ per tonne. Capesize vessels can carry 150,00mt to 190,000mt of iron ore. Yes, from china to Australia, we came with empty holds, ballast passge

Im an I.R in Australia 🇭🇲⚓🍺.Do you Remember a Bulk Carrier Ship NEGO KIM? a Ship anchored ⚓ off Dampier W.A back in 2001?,8 crew members were killed 4 down in cargo hold 1 whilst doing maintenance?,and 4 were on the foredeck were blown over the side-never seen again.What happened whilst doing the maintenance in the Cargo hold not only using a Chemical Substances to Clean the excess deposits from building up it required a Paint job to finish the job.But sad to say the 8 crew were didn't go home what happened when the painting was in procedure the Paint was Chemical & they sprayed the Ballast Tank then a explosion happened killing 8 which 4 were instantly killed from the sevre burning.4 of the other Crew died were blown over the side due to impact of the explosion they were never seen again even by Search & Rescue team.

Horrible story. Explosion took place in the ballast tank, howerer, not in the hold.
