As a consequence, that mean trucks cannot be older than 3 years if they are to pick up or deliver containers at those ports. This issue wipes out approximately half of the fleet trucks used to move containers in/out of the port.

Let us remember that the US granted Preferred Trade Status to China in the mid 1990s. Bill Clinton signed it and the US Congress claimed this would open up the markets to China for US goods and would create more jobs. Well, did it? The US with the help of the corporate lobbyists had visions of profits and cheaply made goods. Fill circle now is that we are held hostage to these cheap goods and now dependent of Asia, mostly China to feed our addiction. We need to bring back the critical productions back to this hemisphere, Mexico is a great source of affordable labor and we don't have to wait for ships to be unloaded. A dollar spent in Mexico will almost always return to the US. Our economies are connected along with Canada.....

On October 16, 2020, the EPA reached a settlement agreement with California Air Resource Board (CARB) to shut down semi tractor rigs that were non-compliant with new California emission standards: The trucking issue with California LA ports, ie the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB), is that all semi tractors have to be current with new California emissions standards. As a consequence, that mean trucks cannot be older than 3 years if they are to pick up or deliver containers at those ports. This issue wipes out approximately half of the fleet trucks used to move containers in/out of the port.

As someone who thought about being a truck driver, I can tell you that more respect has to be given to these men and women that deliver our goods. I've seen the same problem all over the world and these are just some of the problems: -They are blamed for being late even if it's not their fault - Given illegally heavy loads - Asked to deliver a load in an impossible time that would have them speeding - Drivers in cars don't respect their blind spots, space cushions, don't let them merge, etc. - How about the sacrifice that they are away from their families for a long time and miss out on holidays. - There is also a health risk to being in a job that you sit for hours and the meal options are not the healthiest on the road. I have done some jobs in my lifetime that don't add value to society such as valet parking (yes there is no need to have your car parked for you at the Ritz, you can manage without us). But truck drivers will be in high demand well into the robot era.

In fact, things are run simply by the people who run them and that is based on how well they run them and NOT based solely on the perception of them having a high level of intelligence. Furthermore; things are NOT a show because oftentimes we have several versions of a similar thing that compete against each other to succeed and so the priority is not to SHOW themselves as being successful but to actually be successful because otherwise they would fail to exist as competitors. Make sure you are remembering this lesson I have taught you because I have had enough of your unwise commenting on my internet.

I am a small business owner and this situation has not been because of “corporate greed. This is the result of supply chain imbalances caused during 2020 lockdowns in combination to worker shortages at the Long Beach and LA port. There were more containers coming to the US and not being sent back, consequently you have a pile up of empty containers in the U.S. that don’t get sent back so then there are less in China to send back again to the U.S. on future cargo trips. In addition port operators in Cali had stay home for COVID restrictions. So a combination of containers not being shipped back to Asia has made the cost of containers increase due to lack there of containers PLUS less operators at the ports and you have massive issue. Items in these containers support small businesses too. We have been massively impacted by having our inventory not only STUCK at anchor but also sea shipping costs have increased for businesses 5x in the last year. Even myself I have very small amount of product stuck in one of those containers right now waiting to be unloaded at the port but it’s so backed up that even though the ship arrived in August it still hasn’t been unloaded. It’s not corporate greed it’s all due to poor government handling. They chose not automate the ports like they should have, they chose not to operate the ports 24/7, they chose to have very strict COVID tracing guidelines and send operators in quarantine, they didn’t send containers back during the lockdown and it’s resulted in massive supply chain issue months later. This whole ordeal has been festering since early 2021 and now it’s becoming public

Ummm that isn't going to help the situation when these carbo ships have to deliver to Cali. port. Do you expect these ships to travel down & around S. America to Florida ports?

I have a theory about this. Remember the old days (before all this technology) when American goods were "Made In America". I won't say any names, but maybe we should reorganize and go back to that. Even if it means less choice.

Sorry but American made things like Chevy, Ford and GMC r complete garbage, if more was made here it'll probably be the same trash
@beanieweenie95433 жыл бұрын
It has nothing to do with production the problem is distribution. The goods are here sitting waiting. We can produce our own goods all day long but if you don’t have any one to distribute it then you still have the exact same problem

@@Guerrillacreations Toyota still has much better quality and attention to detail than american companies last year Ford only stopped the assembly line a handful of times to fix problems, they focus more of quantity over quality, Toyota on the other hand stopped it over a thousand times to fix problems cause they care more about quality over quantity

@@maxx_thedragondominator No one wants to drive into California or into the ports with all the BS in place. We could even go into the electronic log mandates and other regulations that only benefit the large fleets with under qualified drivers if you want to really see how they have played such a good hand in the industry.

Most truck drivers are stuck because, as of January, an executive order signed by the current administration limits the cargo to be shipped between states. To say there's a lack of drivers is completely false. They just can't get to the shipping yards to move the freight. I'm in shock that the media isn't reporting this.

Yes I knew it was propaganda because I live in texas and there is no shortage of drivers. There are more drivers than trucks.

The port employees drove away the truck drivers. The constant harassment abuse and long wait experienced by the truck drivers is stressful. Truck drivers are treated like animals in the Port and they can't do anything about it.
@zachary16153 жыл бұрын
The problem isn't the shortage of truck drivers. There is no shortage. The problem is it is mostly owner operators that haul out of ports, and California passed a law making it illegal to operate a semi that is pre 2011, and then by 2035 all diesel trucks are supposed to be outlawed by that same law. So California is doing it to themselves and the rest of us. And not to mention pay is extremely poor.
