The 747 is an awesome aircraft. Am glad even after the wheels came off the aircraft didn’t get lopsided. Glad to know the crew and all emergency workers are safe

Just proves again how supremely engineered this great air frame really is and how sad its discontinuation is. When piloted by properly trained dedicated flight crews the combination are amazing. Really sad to see the resulting damage but no doubt Cargolux will get her back in the sky with a complete set of landing gear at some point. Seeing as its way too early to comment on possible causes and responsibilities we'll leave it there except to say very pleased no one was injured in the incident.. Kudos to the Cargolux flight crew for a job more than well done.

Well I've never seen that kind of incident. Gear not extending or not locking in the extended position has happened often, but I've never heard of the whole 4-wheel assembly detaching like that.
@billszalkowski7025 Жыл бұрын
An incident like this would pose the question about how thorough is the maintenance program. Also, it is obvious this is a mechanical failure. Ultimately, the landing gear frame or linkage must have sustained damage during the prior landing or sustained damage related to metal fatigue. Either way it is a blessing the crew was not injured!

"What are your thoughts on this latest Cargolux incident?" - No, the latest Cargolux incident was yesterday 20th of May 2023. It seems that it hasn't been a good month for Cargolux. All these incidents, are they a coincidence or is something going wrong at Cargolux?

Sounds like Cargolux has a maintenance problem, someone screwed the pooch and didn't do their job.

Good thing that didn't happen in Chicago. Would have done a lot more damage at the airport given how busy it is with that flying wheel gear.

I am wondering where the fuel dump area for that aircraft was? Would it have been over the North Sea ? Surely not over land?
@barnalisarkar3248 Жыл бұрын
In 0:49 we can see that they where not too far away from LIX as they headed towards ORD. So they dumped fuel in near by area.
@Rasscasse Жыл бұрын
@@barnalisarkar3248 Interesting. Luxembourg is very small and it’s very close to 3 other countries. So it’s possible that they dumped fuel in Belgium or in France or even in Germany

@jantschierschky3461 Жыл бұрын
@Philip Soon not at that low level. Kerosene does not evaporate that easily.
@SHADOWW18 Жыл бұрын
fuel dumps dont just happen, they're controlled. They are in specified areas. Everything is taken into consideration from air speed to height the dump takes place to the area and surrounding areas and waterways etc. The fuel should vaporise if you believe the authorities... im not fully convinced of that myself
@jantschierschky3461 Жыл бұрын
@stuart m you look at the flightpath, all those areas are sensitive. There is no way plane went to 30k feet to dump. Below 10 000 kerosene is like a fog on the ground, being a 747 loaded for transatlantic, that is a lot of fuel.
@TB-um1xz Жыл бұрын

A better question would be why it does not happen more often. Landing gear on a heavy plane like this are under tremendous forces. Landing gear are simply so good they make it look easy. Like falcon 9 launches.

The 747 is certified to land with 2 of its four main landing gear in operative. I don't know what would be the weight limits are in that situation. The 747 has two main body gears located in the middle while the two outside mains are sometimes referred to wing gears. I worked at a landing gears overhaul plant many moons ago.
