2019 Audi S6 : Does the Switch to Diesel Matter?

I had the 2018 S6 - and absolutely loved it. But - I bought it because it looked beautiful, was rapid, refined and sounded fabulous, without it sounding over the top. I can't however fathom why anybody would buy the S6 diesel. And - since the 2019 S6 came out - I have never seen one on the road - ever!

Can't disageee with that. Flippin' love my A6 Avant V6 d. Bought 6 months old with 6k and a whopping £16k less than list when new. Unless you are minted why would you buy new?

Love Audi and love the 6 models but I never really understood this car, it was made at a time when diesels were actually becoming less popular and it was almost a walk backwards for Audi because you already had the very impressive A6 Bi-TDI that was pushing out not much short of this model but for considerably cheaper, I just never really saw the point in it , beautiful car but a bit late off the blocks! big mistake, why flog Diesel to the UK which is expensive and dirty when the rest of Europe and the World can get a S6 and S4 in Petrol.

The s6 in the current market though is only 5-8k more than 50 tdi which i think is good value you can pick these up for mid 30k now which is a lot of car for the money

an a6 diesel is fine , even a hybrid is very economic , but an s6 is suppose to be a sporty fast petrol baby version of the rs6 , not a humungus 3.0 giant v6 diesel , which is not very economically efficient for diesel it's just plane stupid

Great review, full of the detail needed to consider as a next car. I have a 3 yr old 3.0l Avant S-line which is the same V6 with 272bhp. Even that is plenty and it is effortless, it is the best car I've owned for long distance driving. Don't trust Audi on the fuel consumption figures though, mine lies about mpg; if the computer tells me it's averaged 43mpg it will actually be around 41. Don't know how they continue to get away with this 🙄

Agree my new S4 tells me it is doing 35mpg on average yet when my calculation based on fuel fill ups is 44mpg

That's a fair comment. I think if you drove the S6 after anything with sub 200bhp you'd be excited plus, just sitting in one is pretty exciting compared to your Fords and Vauxhalls. Think it just jaded journalism talk (no criticism intended).

I have it and sleep very good, just finished my 900 km trip to Italy with average consumption 7.2 l/100 km and hit the top speed 250 km per hour with very nice acceleration, for sound I drive Jaguar f type S, this car is the best daily I have ever had.

@@TasimanaOG wrong. The S6 has a higher spec as standard e.g. where the 55TFSI has soft-touch, the S6 has leather. And the S6 has quilted leather seats as standard, whereas the 55TFSI has suede. Also, where did you get the power figure from? The 55TFSI has 335bhp, respectable number. But the S6 has more with 344bhp (not a huge difference but still proves you wrong). Also, the 55TFSi has 500nm of torque, again respectable number, but the S6 has a crazy 700NM of torque. Also, since you are complaining about 0-60 time compared to the C7 S6, the C8 S6 has a (tested myself) 4.7sec 0-60 time, and the 55TFSI has a 5.3 0-60 time. Overall, the 55TFSI is a great car, but not as luxurious or fast as the C8 S6. (I do agree that the C7 S6 had a better engine, but Audi didn’t choose this engine, they were forced to because of regulations. The 2007 S6 also does 0-60 time in 5.3 seconds. (Although I love the 5.2L V10 engine from the gallardo, it still proves you wrong that the 2019< car is faster.
