I have had my X3 30e for almost 12 months, but due to Covid only travelled 6280 miles, of which 4339 have been electric miles. It costs me just under £2 to" fill" the battery (on a standard tariff, not off-peak). Overall very pleased with the car, and have been surprised at how much the battery is topped up automatically on journeys when in automatic hybrid mode. The "30 mile" range on electric power only applies if you switch to pure electric power, as that drains all the electricity before switching to petrol, otherwise on a 60-70 mile journey, over 40 electric miles easily achieved. A portion of battery power is reserved, and providing you have told the car via the SatNav where it is going, it will switch to electric power automatically as it nears the programmed destination

Hey! A very happy new year, Rebecca. Hope you and yours are well and healthy. Love the way you do reviews with detailed information and also in an interesting way that keeps me glued to the review regardless of the car might not be sometime relevant to Indian market. Keep up. You’re still the same 👍

Excellent review. I own the Petro only version of this model, will wait until the distance improves on the electric before considering the Hybrid.

I'm about to get the 30i also, but am considering to turn it into CNG-drive. Seems the most sensible and cheap option right now.

My understanding is that the 2021 30e has an electric range of only 18 miles. You said that it tested out at 30?

Nice Review, i have 2 questions: 1. what are the differences between the X3 30e and X3 30i Engines? 2. what about the recall of so many PHEV BMW cars (including X3 30e) last year?..Thanks for your effort and time :)
@Spare84
@Spare84 3 жыл бұрын
1. None as far as I know from a technical perspective: you have the same 2 liter engine in both. In the 30e, you get 181bhp from the petrol engine (same as the 20i)- enhanced with 108bhp from the electric motor, whereas the 30i grants you 252bhp from petrol only. 2. The recall was linked to batteries produced during a certain period. They had to be checked for risk of explosion/fire. I believe all cars have been recalled and checked by now. Source: I own a X3 30e.

Seems like a great a great car, just abit disappointed that they cant seem to make a hybrid without havibg to plug it in, cant the car charge itself whilst using the petrol engine. Does anyone know how much it would cost to charge the battery?

BMW says 30miles is estimated the best for commuting, is that 30 miles one way to work or both ways home to work and back again?

Sounds like 30 miles round trip and less in winter because batteries don't like the cold.

I agree with boatmanbill . You can get very good fuel consumption. I drive a bmw530e and even with several long trips I get well over 100mpg on average. But don’t drive it like a motoring journalist.

Don't agree although your correct BMW's are fashion statements now. My experience is BMW's don't last very long, probably a consequence of BMW cutting corners and using low quality parts with reduced lifespans for all the important mechanical parts, focusing only on style and image. Sure they look pretty, if all you do is a low mileage then a BMW is fine, but if you want a well engineered machine which will last many years I'd steer clear of BMW. Mercedes have some nice PVEVs now, was looking on their website, I wouldn't be surprised if a Merc lasted 2 or 3 times as long as a BMW. Or Tesla's are designed to do one million miles, you'd need seven BMW's to last that mileage if my last two BMW's were anything to go by.

It's all well and good but what is the regular MPG? I understand that depends on how often you charge but as for 30 miles on a charge, again I doubt that and if like me you're on a motorway commute to work it'll not be that good as 30 miles isn't enough for me and wouldn't be for many. Think I'll be sticking with my diesel thanks.

Plug in hybrids only make sense if one can't afford two vehicles. Depends on charging infrastructure as well
@stevencampbell1150
@stevencampbell1150 3 жыл бұрын
@@samusaran7317 yeah but they're useless unless you're doing mainly town driving because once u hit the motorway the petrol engine kicks in and then it's a car lugging heavy batteries the whole way. Until I have no choice I wouldn't have any hybrid about me for that reason.

Has anyone ever wondered if the grid in your country is able to handle the load should everyone get an electric vehicle? Nice review, as usual. Frankly, you can have the vehicle. I prefer our reviewer.🤗👍🔥🥇🌹

Thats a factor people do not consider, especially with pure EV's. And, the infrastructure will take years to install. Hybrids are pure market hype IMO. She is a joy to watch though, lovely reviewer, just another expensive German car.

Great review of a lovely car I absolutely despise electric cars as they're dangerous in so many ways plus the range is awful but I would consider a hybrid as you can still travel as far as your want without charging every 150 odd miles! Happy New year Rebecca you're the best! 💚👍
