I am reading “The cemetery of untold stories” by Julia Alvarez. She lived in the Dominican Republic until she was 10 and then they came to the United States. After an author who was born in Canada but grew up somewhere else won one of their prestigious prizes, I always wonder how they decide who gets to represent a country but since Ms Alvarez spent her formative years there, I am going to go for it. I would be interested in your thoughts.

I think if it's an award that does not provide a criteria to exclude one or the other, then it is fair. I don't follow a lot of awards because the winner selection sometimes seems weird.

I've almost finished An Untamed State. Getting on to Howe to Love a Negro by Dany Lafférrière, Haitian writer.June is always a weird month for me because school is coming to an end.
