RTÉ Two, with it's RTÉ Jr. slot with programming for young children, is switched off on analogue terrestrial as part of the big switch-off event at 10.00am IST. This now marks the end of analogue terrestrial TV in Ireland on both sides of the border.
Reception is from the Carin Hill transmitter in Co. Longford on channel E43, as you can see there's a fair bit of snow - conditions at the moment of capture were in fact as good as they normally were here for analogue from Carin Hill though both RTÉ channels tended to be a little weaker than TV3 and TG4, with several front elements of the aerial missing, a straight line distance of about 90km between transmitter and receiver, over the horizon and a few local hills in the way. Reception of the Saorview multiplex on E47 from the same site however is very good and break-up free.
