I went and sat in one of these today at my local Vauxhall dealer and I was so impressed at how comfortable and neat it looks. I’ll definitely be considering this as my next car. Ideal for getting to work and back.

I went to local dealer to have a look and was very impressed. The problem today is reviewers usually say these 1 litres cars are underpowered, slow, tiresome on the motorway etc, but in the 1980s this was never an issue. Why? Ill tell you. Cars today are pigeonholed far too easily. Basically the manufacturers are saying that these small engined cars are city cars, as if they dont expect you to use them for anything else ie motorway driving. Lets go back to the 80s. Did anyone say that small cars were underpowered and are no good for the motorway? Think of the old mini, morris minor, all tiny engines with 40 or so BHP, yet people went all over the country in them, no complaints from people saying they hated long journeys in them etc, so why is it different today? Anything with a small engine is seen in a negative way, but not everyone wants or can afford a fast car with a big engine.

I've seen the SL and it's smart looking. Good options list and for a top-of-the-range vehicle it's great value. I'm considering it.

Think it looks a great little car, pity it doesn't have led side lights nor come in yellow. My wife needs to change her Peugeot 107, which has been very good and is yellow. This fits the bill. Test drive coming up. Excellent review by the way.

6000 miles in, 52mpg average... Been back for a few minor recalls (Reprogramming of the trip computer)... And it comes alive at 4250RPM. Other half doesn't seem to mind it either... (Previous car was a Frontera Olympus - Big change!)

Was given one today why my gtc was in the garage. It reminds me of a bad 1990s Peugeot 106 but without the charm. And if this car can hit 60 in 13s I'll eat my hat. Then aging, at speed this thing is terrifying, steering far to light, should firm up as you speed up.
@StephenButlerOne9 жыл бұрын
One more thing, I have the 1l se, and over the 60 miles of 50/50 dual caraway / town driving I've averaged 43mpg, my old laguna 2l diesel done an average of 49mpg for its whole life.
@ge81656 жыл бұрын
@@StephenButlerOne Hey, i read your comment and for me that isnt the case. Ive had my SL since launch as a cheap car it was the test drive model and got it cheaper. I take mine 7 miles to work every day and average 49mpg, on the trip to wales which is 50 odd miles away i average 62 mpg on cruise control, ive had this up to 68 on the longer trip to bangor. I run my tyres at a higher psi around 37-38psi on the standard 15 inch wheels. Its a cheap car but its working for me. 13s to 60 is about right too, once you get used to first gear.

Vauxhall Viva is nothing special! I have been looking for a brand new car and was deeply disappointed with Viva: no space for my legs (5 feet'8), I was hitting the a/c dials with my left knee. When I positioned myself comfortably, there was no legroom for the passenger right behind me. And the boot, such a let down, Vauxhall. Viva is so expensive, and PCP offers are not as attractive as Suzuki's Celerio that offers plenty of leg and head room, 99g CO2, and with prices starting at £6999 the Celerio is my pick. After haggling with the dealer last Saturday, I am driving the smallest Suzuki and this is the best deal in the market: short contract, low monthly payments, costs peanuts to run. Citroen alike these days, Vauxhall makes you pay for the badge. Ain't for me.

I never knew there was vauxhall badge snobbery. And I drive one, it wasn't chosen for the badge I can tell your that. However this car is the worst most, soulless car I have ever drive, and I've drove some crap. I was given it as a loaner by the vauxhall dealership when my GTC went in for a check up.

***** I am very much concerned about my budget, even such Viva was far too expensive to finance through PCP
@StephenButlerOne8 жыл бұрын
The day after I written this, I got given another one as a loaner, for my 12 month serveice, this time it had leather seats (or half leather can't remember now) and a leather(ish) steering wheel, and I don't know if it was just then upgrades or I was judging the first one harshly. As I quite enjoyed my second 2 day experiance in the viva. matUKlondon don't buy a new car, or at least don't stretch and blow £7k on this or any car in its class. Spend a grand (1k) an about a 5 year old ka. Don't go getting finance, and don't do it on a entry level city car . Trust me, get an older motor, you'll thank me evey month. I drove round in some right old shit boxes, and I loved evey one of them. Probably more than my brand new (13 months old now), as old cars have "quirks" new cars don't have character of an older car. My current car is by far the best car I've owned, by a long way, but isn't my favourite , probably my least. And I owned an 1992 Hreg escort van (cost me my claud Butler bike) . Party bus when I was young. Use to drive to blackpool, and other places, go clubbing and sleep in the back with mates. Also owned a 2004 Laguna estate, dropped the back seats inflated a double air bed in the back and toured France sleeping in that. Also had a rover 420, no stories in that on, except it cost me £700 and lasted 7 years. I suppose I'm saying it's not the car, it's what you do with it. If I was young, I'd get a van again as they are so versitle, and cheaper to insure. An estate would be to expensive to insure, but they are by far the best cars. I'm getting an Octavia Vrs or Leon ST FR next, just because i miss the space. Or did this summer when we toured Spain. It was a squash 5 of us in a Coupe, an luggage. Don't get a small scare on finance. Get a cheap car cash. F+#k what your mates etc think. The car will be yours. Edit - Wow I went on a bit there.

What do you drive? God, 5* star service but this must be reflected in the bill you pay! A loaner for a yearly servicing, do they reassemble the whole car again?
@StephenButlerOne8 жыл бұрын
matUKlondon the service was crap actually. I have a GTC SRI 165, it drive great, has crappy electrics, and a poor aerial reception, and they refuse to fix any. Service was free with the car. The chassis is great though, it handles really well, has legroom for adults in the back, something it competition lacks, also it had a big boot. Actually bigger than the 5 door astra. I may have a decent car now, but boat wast £7k on an entry level car. If you do really want to finance something new(ish) spend £7 on a 2 year old Fiesta or corsa. Something with a bit of soul. But my advice would be get a ka, there is a ton of them around, they sold about 10 million of them,so the s rap yard is full of spare parts, the 1.3zetex in the origanal was a little peach, and it drove like a go cart. I think it's class 2 Inc and sips fuel. And if you get a red, black or blue, with full body and bumpers, they now look cool and retro. They start at about £500 for a 2003 plate. So if you don't it or drive it in a ditch, it's not the end of the world. But don't go under 2003, they never put air bags in them before then. Don't get in debt for a car, something you don't need as a kid. I'm assuming your young.
