@FuckOrange Hitler bro so trump was a populist but not a fascist. Fascists are socialistic in their economics and aim for centralisation of state power while trump actively opposed both those things. The reason why trump is a populist is what you need to look into. What weakened America so much that populism was needed to revitalise it? @@dagsby4685 I could take a stab. They are "nationalist" in their love of the Shire, and their culture, and have a mistrust for "outsiders". They would never accept mass immigration, and were extremely tight knit and culturally homogenous. A lot of Tolkein would actually be "non-PC" today - I always giggle when I hear them talk about the ring wraiths, with statements like "I dont like the look of those black men". But the Hobbits are not unique in the above views, like I remember a conversation in Brie with the barman talking about not wanting a flood of outsiders, while the Saruman type spies (part orcs) were making dark statements about how there would be lots of people moving up the rode, and needed places to stay, and you'll need to put them up etc. Essentially the bad guys were promoting refugee immigration, which the locals wanted no part in.
@TheMastaRob3 жыл бұрын
@@dagsby4685 Hobbits have a level of mistrust for anyone that lives a distance from them, for the most part, simply because they dont know them and never travel. Even other Hobbits in other areas of the Shire. But they never act out mistrust in any serious manner, since they are unfailingly courteous and well mannered, for the most part. However, what you are saying assumes that 1) contact with the rest of the world would only ever be good - when at the end of LOTR they close themselves off to outsiders permanently, after their almost catastrophic experiences with Saruman's lot. The shire IS a land a peace and harmony, in a way that many other places are not. Frodo says at one point that no Hobbit has ever killed another, and ensures is doesnt happen even with those that have gone bad... 2) you make no allowance the the unique culture of the Shire, and how it would be changed or even destroyed by even well meaning immigrants. Since they love what they have, are are so tightly knit, I cannot see this happening. This is a normal attitude for much of history, and in many areas of the world today. It's not that they cannot adapt, as e.g. they live in harmony with humans in Brie and have done so for a very long time, they more just want to be left alone. The OP is simply stating, I think, that a desire to protect your own culture from external forces through immigration, would be considered far-right. I guess anyway.

@@dagsby4685 I think OP was not saying that he or you would call them far right, but the hard left accuse anyone with even an inkling of these ideals as being far right. Of course the English as an ethnic group have a moral claim to England! An indigenous person is a person with an ancestral link to the land they live in. I am an indigenous Englishman, an indigenous Briton and I am indigenous of the British isles and I am an indigenous European. England is my ancestral homeland many of my forebears have worked and fought to make this country what it is.
@bob1784free3 жыл бұрын
@Ubiquitary Its got nothing to do with citizenship. Anybody can be a British citizen via due process. This is our homeland and the majority of us have links here going back many generations. We have no where else to go! Its quite simple do you have ancestral links to this land or not? You can be mixed race and be indigenous providing you have a link. Indigenous people have rights under the UN charter. The right to preserve their history and their culture. It looks like we may need those rights given the current assault on our history, culture and way of life.

Are white Americans, black Americans and Asian Americans second class citizens even though they know they're originally from Europe, Africa and Asia, respectively, and that the Amerindians are indigenous? Doesn't the left claim all the time that the Native Americans have a moral claim to their ancestral lands in the Americas? Your argument makes no sense and is emotion fueled.

Our country has lost its very special connection with god and been replaced with scientism. Reducing all experience to the 5 senses, hence we find it so difficult to conceive anything outside of the material. The monarchy has kept the symbolism of England, Britain as a whole hanging on by a thread. One thing I think English scholars get very wrong about America is that the founding fathers wanted to keep god out of politics. It’s quite the opposite! The experiment was for a pious people... Meaning worship god not government. In god we trust, not man. They knew power corrupts but if the people worshipped the ultimate mentor, Jesus they would never let the political class become worshipped. In UK we are different, constitutional monarchy, our monarchy encompasses/props up all our history, ritual and religion over the ages in its institution and practice. It’s symbolism is more important than we realize! The more I explore these ideas the more I believe we truly live in a symbolic world, we’ve just been blinded to it. I fear losing the monarchy would be the straw that breaks the camels back.

I respect Benjamin's dedication to the issues he tries to fight. But, I also must agree with some of the comments below. Carl is so much of a good 80's/90's guy, with his Classical Liberal approach. You can't fight the progressive/woke or hard-left tendencies with the mildness and niceness of classical Liberalism. The further polarisation of Western societies at this stage are inevitable and may I say, ... necessary. But Carl is still being a gentle giant dinosaur in the middle, left there from the previous era, keep repeating his beliefs while people who already realised how deep the problem is, are lined up already on the right side. NOT on the far-right! But on the Right. Without the wishy-washy bs of classical Liberalism. The actual conservativism what Poland or Hungary is showing for instance. That is where 'fighting back' starts at. Everything else is just delaying the inevitable.
@mogznwaz3 жыл бұрын
I'm a Gen X so slightly older than Carl but I find him a kindred spirit. I agree our liberalism is the best - but it's just too polite. We might only be able to save it if we abandon it temporarily and fight for it. Hard. The far left have a big headstart, they've captured our institutions, our schools, our kids. But we know the wheel WILL turn as the leftists go full on authoritarian. Which they're already doing. And enlightenment values will once again be the counter cultural revolution passed on by dissidents in alleys and cellars (or dark corners of the Internet).
@petofisanyi24203 жыл бұрын
@@mogznwaz you are right. Just think about this: the left abandoned their classical left tenets/tendencies (progressive tax, taking care of the Working Class, regardless of race, gender... etc) in just a couple of years. It's completely gone. Now the president of the United States is the furthest left president, ever elected in US history. There *has to be* an equally assertive force to balance that out! Classical Libs like Carl is very reluctant or slow to realise or accept, that fighting this new, very effective neo-marxist force will require people in the middle too, to let's say ""adjust"" their viewpoints or methods a little bit or to make bigger/smaller compromises in order to set the whole record straight. I am not saying that Gen X should throw their worldview out completely. But times are rapidly changing and if we miss the train there won't be next to jump on and history will be written without our input or values. (Which is exactly the goal of the culture-marxist far-left.)
