Everyone remembers being told as a kid to be careful online and to never trust someone behind a computer screen, that statement seemed to be an eerie foreshadowing for one man in particular. Carl Herold was well known on Reddit for a time and was praised by many as being a gifted programmer who taught his skills to fellow redditors on his page. But what nobody knew was the dark and depraved life Carl kept hidden from the outside and online world. A secret that would lead to his downfall and secure his place as the most hated man on Reddit.

One thing we can take away from this is that the common idea of what a child abuser is-an overweight, balding, mustached, creepy, elderly man-is not always accurate.

@Jacko 223 they would have had to have bound his hands, in which case it would have been mentioned that it was a murder. Also getting someone in a position where his mouth is gagged, hands are tied and then ALSO hang that person doesn't sound like an easy task to do without a lot of noise

While it is true you never truly know someone on the internet, you could say the same about people you encounter day-to-day. Carl wasn't caught by his local community, but rather the FBI. This shows that he was probably just as friendly and caring outside of his home too; at work, at the store, with his friends, etc. People put on masks all the time to hide their identity

what fascinates me is the way he managed to maintain the image of a perfectly nice every-day guy, a smart and talented programmer, even a good samaritan sharing his knowledge with others for free. meanwhile he's keeping his own son imprisoned, exploiting him in every possible way, and committing the most vile and abusive acts anyone could do to another person, a child on top of that. what an insane double life.
@fawnieee

That's what preds do, what their staunch allies and advocates can't seem to comprehend. Preds usually don't appear as some kind of monster we can all easily spot, they're usually well hidden and have built an identity to make themselves look like a good person when they're not. It's why reddit and twitter sicken me, they take one aspect of a pred, most likely the false identity they've built themselves to protect their true behaviour and go on to believe that preds are "good people", while their identity is just a falsehood, a cover to hide what they're really up to. All these people who claim that preds are the "real victims" that they "don't deserve to be punished" (despite the fact they seldom do any jail time ofc, and usually get off with a fine for violating a child) are either delusional, preds themselves or completely brainwashed by said preds. And I can't tell you how much this "pred acceptance" have emboldened preds themselves. I've had to remove myself off of so many victim/survivor sub reddits because of the continuous attacks from preds and their "staunch allies", claiming that we "should have enjoyed it" that it's "not that traumatizing" and how we could "ruin the lives of our preds that harmed us" (completely ignoring how THEY ruined our lives). I can't stand our world anymore, being a victim was already hard enough, already stigmatized enough, but now you have these pred white knights and emboldened preds themselves that think they can attack and threaten us because being violated just "isn't that bad" according to them.

I'm quite surprised and horrified that most people don't know that a "skilled" abuser is a good liar. Make themselves seem as friendly and trusting as possible so they can trap and manipulate their victim. Despite how much we as a society talk about abusers, we don't get that they aren't cartoony villains who make their needs and want as transparent as possible, it's more nuanced than that.

There was a similar story (minus the reddit stuff) about a girl whose mother and father ran a "photography" or " child modeling" website that was basically nothing more than thinly veiled pornography and exploitation. I think the reason you don't hear anything about this guy's son after this is because there are groups who help these children start new lives as far away from and as disconnected from that past as possible.
@nicohaba2203
@nicohaba2203 2 жыл бұрын
I’m like the same age as that kid, damn. My dad sexually abused me too when I was young (it’s over now, thank god), and it’s still awful to think about even if it wasn’t as severe as what that boy went through. But I have no proof so I can never get my dad thrown in prison like he and all other people who do that deserve. How was I supposed to get proof anyways? I was 7. So now I have to say good morning to this man every day. I have to go to sleep one room over from him and I have to eat dinner with him and I have to sew the buttons back onto his goddamn shirts because he can’t be bothered to do it himself. For a time, when I was first realizing the full magnitude of everything that happened, I couldn’t eat around him at all, because I was physically unable to make myself swallow. And I’ve gone to shelters and I’ve called organizations and I’ve talked with CPS but no one can do anything because I don’t have proof and it just makes me want to scream and lose hope in everyone. So thank you, actually, for making this video. It’s nice to know that people care about this stuff and might care about my story too if I somehow ended up in a KZbin video. You literally can’t do anything about CSA legally if your abuser is any good at covering their tracks and doesn’t like, willingly record themselves doing it, did you know? And yeah yeah innocent until proven guilty and all that but like, how inhumane is it to force kids to somehow collect proof of the most traumatic experiences of their lives, which could have occurred years ago by the time they’re willing to risk reporting anything, or receive no concrete help at all? Just something to think about. Anyways, stuff like that does follow you, but I resent narratives that define a victims entire being around what they’ve been through. Because like, I’m more than that, cmon, Im building a whole life for myself and the people I love right now. I have a solid plan to get out of here at last and i have friends that care about me deeply and will be there for me through the entire process of healing from all this and I’m gonna have a life that isn’t lived just to survive finally. It’s a trip relearning how to feel safe after going through abuse like that, but it is possible and I know that because I can relax outside of home now sometimes and it’s wild. I’m proud of who I am and how far I’ve come, and I hate thinking of myself as some pitiful helpless thing, but that doesn’t make what I’ve been through any less abjectly horrible and I wish ppl could see that. Like do you even know the strength it takes to have your plans to escape foiled again and again and still not give up on having a better life? To still not think the entire world is horrible and awful and doesn’t care about you because that’s all you’ve seen of it? To just keep going after that? Maybe it’s one of those things where you never really understand it until you go through it. Then again, this is just my experience. Definitely not all victims think of things this way, so don’t think I’m speaking for anyone besides myself.

It does happen where news comes out about a celebrity doing something shady and people that have been close with them in the past when they were younger or whatever suddenly jump on the bandwagon making all sort of claims to try and get money either directly from them using blackmail or from suing them after making what they have to say public. Not saying that horrible stuff like this doesn't happen because it definitely does, when there's evidence present then there is no doubt about it. However, I hate it when people just say "oh they did this" and everybody takes their word at face value despite there being no evidence. Of course this just happens all the time also, not just with celebrities, but it happens with celebrities more. If people making false claims wasn't such a common thing then the people that do suffer would get more credibility, it's just a shame.
@felixhenson1801
@felixhenson1801 3 жыл бұрын
@@tituswheatbread9646 False claims are actually very rare, at only 2% of all accusations. Also I wonder how people think anyone makes money from accusing a celebrity of rape. Said celebrity almost always gets away with it, the survivor nearly always remains anonymous so they aren't getting interview money or a public profile, how exactly are they getting this money? I do also wonder why people get so mad about false allegations but nowhere near as mad about the fact that only 18% of rape allegations end in an arrest, and that's assuming the survivor felt able to talk to the police (rarely).

True story: I had a dispute with another online celebrity, who was an atheist like me and was in many international atheist alliances. The guy was ultra woke and virtue signaling at every opportunity possible to look like the best guy in the world. We found out he was charged with forced prostitution and imprisonment of 6 women. He served his sentence but again was charged with the r*pe of a minor. He escaped Turkey to avoid this charge (15 years), and the girl ended herself in shame. And now he got asylum in Canada, fooling the Canadian authorities that the Islamist Turkish government is after him for being atheist. He's still active to this day, sharing things like "we stand with Ukraine" etc to gain virtue points, although he's more behind the curtains now. The more disgusting thing about this is, many people in his organization knew about this but protected him, because he had connections to bring funding to the organization (I won't name the organization) from EU. All these evil people are still active to this day. Just one of the many reasons you can be sure that evil is comfortable and thriving among us.

“What you could take away from all of this is that you truly can never know a person online-“. No, there are some people that you can truly never see their depths until it comes out. Online, offline, you can’t tell. Then, when the truth is incontrovertible, that’s when you have to face the fact that you had put all your faith in this person. I worked in a school once, there was a couple of different cases where an administrator or coach who was trusted, we are talking YEARS of trust, got caught either stealing money from the sports events safe or, in the latter case, the guy was cultivating a relationship with a student - each time I saw the reactions of their fellow teachers or administrators, and how betrayed they felt. All of them felt they knew these guys, when really they didn’t. They WORKED alongside these people and didn’t see what was happening. Online, offline, you don’t necessarily know a person through and through. Some people are just bad.

Then it was found out to be true and then my (now) ex best friend said that he would abuse her and her little sister and her stepmom made me completely rethink everything about him and he still hasn’t been tried or found. As a victim of sexual abuse myself, no one deserves to go through this. That poor baby did nothing wrong and was still used like he was garbage to be disposed of. I'm repulsed. I'm shocked those men could do something so horrendous, and to one of their own sons no less? Absolutely disgusting. My thoughts and prayers go out to that boy, and as I'm assuming he's an adult or close to being one, I hope he received the support he needed - though the scars never completely heal. I'm really sorry that happened to you. I too, was sexually harassed by my cousin. He touched me when I was asleep, asked me for a hj, and some other things. I told my other cousin about this, and I was upset that she didn't really trust me. I can't tell my family or relatives because that cousin coming from a very religious family, so I knew they wouldn't believe me too. Up to this day, I tried to act normal to him, acting as if nothing happened, but it hurts me so bad. To me, getting sexual abuse is like getting a scar that couldn't be healed, but I hope you to get better. You deserve all good things in life :)

I came back to this after seeing it a year ago. My parents were psychotic children. I had to endure hours long screaming tantrums over any little excuse or none at all. My stepfather would constantly complain he couldn't do me serious harm without going to jail for it. This became so stressful that I started having migraines that gave me vomiting fits and tunnel vision, the worst one left what little I could see as shades of yellow and orange. This hit me at school and my classmates thought it was funny. My mother made a token show of taking my defense, but never did much beyond sending my stepfather into even bigger fits. People who called themselves my friends saw what I had to deal with and sided with my parents. I eventually realized that my mother was trying to provoke my stepfather into killing me in a blind rage simply because she could reconcile having me when she was 19 and having to take responsibility for her life. In my day child abuse of any kind was overlooked at best. If the child was lucky, no one got involved in their case. Even decades later, my former classmates, teachers and friends (none of which I associate with anymore) revere my parents as heroes because of their mistreatment towards me. In the decades since, much of society has revised its position towards child abuse. I hope Carl's son is getting the help and support he needs.

One of my favorite songs for intuition is Master Jack. It points out very well how you can learn or receive good things from a bad person. You just need to figure out how to separate that good and bad. Once there's nothing left to receive, you leave. Come back every year or two and see what's changed, if anything. Personally, almost everything I've learned has been through bad people because I live in a very terrible place. But I know what's right and what isn't. I hope everyone out there can understand this too so none of you are hurt but don't have to shut yourselves off from life. It's hard to explain exactly what I mean, but somebody will understand.
