Good, happy to see another banger from this channel! If you could pick 5-6 most important and practical books by Jung, what would they be?
@libraryofthemind

Thank you! If you are starting out reading Jung for the first time and you want it to be more practical I'd read these books: 1. Analytical Psychology: Its Theory and Practice: The Tavistock Lectures (This is also in Jung's Collected Works Volume 18 called 'The Symbolic Life' which contains more than just the Tavistock Lectures, either is fine). 2. Man and His Symbols (published just before his death for more of a popular audience). 3. Modern Man in Search of a Soul (basically essays from Jung on different topics) 4. The Portable Jung (This is edited by Joseph Campbell and basically introduces you Jung's core concepts and are taken from his collected works, and after reading this I'd feel free to read his collected works). 5. Memories, Dreams, Reflections (Jung's 'autobiography' written by the help of his assistant but approved by him before his death). I feel his 'important' books are a slightly different question. Because then really you'd be looking at his Collected Works, probably from Vol 5 to Vol 14. They're all important in a sense but that's where you'll find the core of his contributions. Symbols of Transformation is what split him from Freud and his research on that book drove him to his self experimentations that eventually turned into The Red Book. All the best with your readings!

My father taught me - "don't act from your feelings - your emotions and instinct are your lower evil self." When the truth is: Joy is sourced at the nadir - not the apex. I learned this at about 40 years old composing instrumental music. Up, north, higher - good things. Down, south, lower - bad things - This is what our dominant culture teaches children so they avoid feeling.

That's amazing, I am glad that composing the instrumental music was therapeutic enough to bring that up for you. Truly a great testimony.

Great work on this video, its nice to hear you express your thoughts in a candid and honest way. I recognize that we share similar thoughts, ideas and interest in psychology, so I am thankful that you have put this effort forward to create this video. It is very stimulating and encouraging. I have been interested in rediscovering my feelings for the last year or so, but before this... I studied a science, cultivated a career, fostered and identity in the world that i thought be 'right'. I did this for the first 26 years of my life. However, last year, I decided to give it up in the name of my feelings. I didn't know what I was going to experience and what my future would look like, but I knew that the feelings I had while i was living that old life, were not good. The feelings didnt spring up out of no where one day, it was born from a culmination of seemingly insignificant disappointments. To be honest I thought I would get more encouragement and understanding when describing my plan to change my life. I thought that if i gave my reasoning, my subjective experience, that others would understand and appreciate my courage. But ever since I have quit that life, I mostly face resistance, skepticism, disgust, and contempt. Its not easy to follow my individual feelings. In my environment, very few can or want to empathize. In my past, I relied on other's to direct how I felt, i avoided the responsibility to do it myself, I down right neglected my feeling values. I am realizing that I have a very dull recognition of my feelings. I am not well practiced in using my feelings and i often feel immature (childlike) in the feelings I do have. I want to strengthen my feelings and avoid those people in my environment that dont respect my need for autonomy.
@libraryofthemind
@libraryofthemind Жыл бұрын
Thanks for opening up. It certainly is no easy thing to manage life and honour your feeling side at the same time. I think your need for autonomy is important, as it is a fundamental psychological need we all share, but I think some have a higher disposition towards needing it. Your feeling may be childlike at the moment, and I think that's okay, it takes time to develop it if its a weaker aspect. You sound like you've reflected quite a lot, I can only wish you the best in continuing your journey - wherever it may lead.

Thank you for this video. I've been in a dark night of the soul since June, and came into contact with some of my repressed feelings and have felt overwhelmed since. It's felt like life is actually a mountain, and I've been circling around it all along - perhaps a reflection of my desperation and hopelessness. But it's just felt like I've been out of touch with deep feelings, and what I realise a lot of as trauma, for so long. I've been educating myself since on psychotherapy, attachment theory, jungian philosophy, the nervous system, a whole lot. This is an incredibly practical and helpful view on 'feeling the feelings' - thank you!

@Jared. I’ve been into C. G, Jung’s work for a couple of years now. I’ve read some of his books and Marie Louise Von Franz. I’ve listened to quite a few interviews with them and I know how crucially important it is to spread his work, mainly today. You’re really doing a great job and you know how to transmit the essence of this great visionary to people who’d otherwise find it too confusing to understand. Please keep going ❤ thank you

The cause of all OCD behaviors - unfelt feelings from early childhood when we were too busy surviving - will not release us until we feel them in their entirety . A friend said painful or "negative" feelings should be avoided ...I told her - everything that happened is part of my life part of who I am today...And FYI - There are no negative emotions all four are here to assist with our survival - Anger and fear are telling you to get to a safe place. Sad is here to tell us many things - like how much I loved the loved one who just died. Hollow people are against feeling - they also identify with his/her persona - which is of course - weird..."I am a facade." These people are the enemies of feeling - they don't like powerful heavy music like Betovan or metal prog rock...A shaman's job is reconnecting people with lost aspects of themself that have been lost along the road of living. I tried a shamanic ritual for feeling self love - these people could not do it. But my teenage ADHD guitar students could. Self love. Self acceptance. Now I can feel ...also Art Therapy can assist with this - I compose music feel unfelt feelings weep and heal.

Great video Jared, good to have you back. I hope there will be many more videos from you about Jung and his work, i have read and studied much the last couple of years, of Jung and all the branches that leads too, and thats far reaching, Jung was as you know deeply into the study and secrets of the human Soul, and God, and i think you are doing a great job at getting the deeper, hidden meanings and value of Jungs work into the light, no small feat i must add, and thats why i think you have the potentiel to become a great contributor to share Jungs work, you are right op there with Eternalised and Academies of Ideas. Looking forward to the next video Jared, and dont bee afraid to dive deep into the big subjects Jung tackled, you have a great gift on conveying the essential and spark interest. All the best Daniel.

Daniel, thank you so much for your comment. You don't know how timely your comment was but from my end it is a synchronicity. So it is very encouraging to hear from you!
@danielm978

@@libraryofthemind your welcome, and thanks for making these videos and sharing Jungs work and spirit. I must say im not at all surprised about it being a synchronisity, after i found Jungs work, i have it happend for quite a couple of times, and i dont mean the superficial kind of coincidences, but a proper synchronisity, where i have had a deep feeling of something inside myself, with meaning, that then an event happened from outside, totally acausal that made the inner feeling even more profound, i get very humbled each time it has happend. So know you have an answer from your questions, from the Unconscious, so go for it Jared, you will eventually reach a wider audience, the greatness of Jungs work lies in, in my opinion, the universality and the Eternality it carries, we all long for deeper connections with our Soul, but most of us, including me are still very unconscious of it, but when we stumple upon a video, or a book that touches upon the hidden potential that lies dormant in us, we become touched, moved to investigate further, and i believe as Jung did we are in a time, were it is the right moment for a big change, Kairos is the greek name for it i believe Jung said, and that is evident in the amount of subscribers Eternalised and AoI have. And dont worry about reaching this and that amount of subscribers, in the process of sharing this timeless most important of Wisdoms secrets, you are reaching for your own Soul in the process, and it is that quality that will draw people in, as it did with your recent videos about the Feeling side, people are drawn to others who are doing a genuine effort to become whole, and if we do it with sincerity, honesty, courage, abd dare i say, for the sake of our own personal God, the Self will guide us.

@@danielm978 I agree, you make some great points. There is something universal and eternal about Jung's work as you say. The creation of videos is a real challenge for me as most of them come from an inner wrestling of ideas in my own life, and also require quite a bit of research and preparation. I have grown a lot from it though and of course have more growing to do! Thanks again for your support, I appreciate hearing your experiences.

I’m glad you find my content insightful and helpful. Thanks for letting me know you what you appreciate. A little about myself: I am early 30s, I’m from Australia (as you guessed), I’ve worked and studied in a range of fields and industries and currently am in Strategic Policy, I’ve also got an honours degree in psychology, among other degrees. I would say I started in this journey since a young child, if I really think about it, however, I’d say there were a series of events that brought me more directly to where I am now. For example, in my early 20s I was struggling to find my way and I remember looking up personality tests to help me find what I should do. I found the MBTI and when I received the result I cried because no one up to that point in my life had articulated to me who I was and how I functioned. Additionally, I’ve always been interested in dreams, long before I knew anything about Jung. I started my dream journal over 10 years ago, where I would write down each dream in the mornings. Later in around 2015, I lived with a psychologist who become a close friend and that had an impact on me. I sought out more psychological content online and found Jordan Peterson’s channel before he was famous. Naturally, after he blew up in 2016 I paid attention and of course I was reminded again of Carl Jung and as I was always interested in his typology I decided to delve deeper. Jung opened my eyes in ways I didn’t think possible, and my past experiences made more sense. I felt I learned more, as now I had a better framework than before, and from there I just kept exploring when I could. For me it’s always important that I live life and then come back to the theory and learnings to see how it works together, instead of only being stuck in one or the other. This has helped me to learn a lot, because what I read in Jung, I’ve often already experienced within myself. This gives me a certain understanding and confidence, and living through these things and having them play out in my life gives me what I feel is a natural authority to speak about these insights. That’s why I’ve made videos then disappeared for awhile because I’m living life and facing real present challenges, working life out as we all are. I am grateful for your comment because my hope is to continue to provide insight to people and help people from that psychological perspective, articulating things in a way that empowers them to understand and be able to implement the insights into their own life. That is also why I’m on this journey, as it is a part of me to be here doing this, I see it as a strength I have with it’s purpose to empower others. In some sense I guess you could say that I’m compelled to preach the ‘good news’. Not to help people find a church, but to help bring to life, through articulation, the message of the domain of the heart or soul. Helping people unlock parts of themselves they didn’t know and strengthening them in life. That’s how I view myself, as a kind of messenger. Thanks again, would love to hear your experiences also.

@@libraryofthemind Dear Jared, Thank you very much for taking the time to answer and expand on my questions. I had never heard of MBTI until you mentioned it. I did the test, which told me I am INFP. Thank you for that. As you cried when you got your result I am wondering why it had such a strong emotional effect upon you? If you can try to answer that question I am sure you will learn even more about yourself. I too have always used dreams. I intuit them quite freely - dreams are like very delicate fabric - handle with care! As with so much else I feel that lightness of touch is key. Jung comes across as a father figure - perhaps because he was quite elderly by the time he was filmed. His answer to the question of his belief in God is as profound as it is simple: " I do not need to believe. I know". I find great solace in my faith. When younger - I'm 64 - I tried several therapeutic systems, mostly body-based, such as Gestalt. When I was very ill about 25 years ago and had little support I ended up in desperation going to a church and talking to a Christian councellor. I was later confirmed. I wonder if you have felt any spiritual yearning, if you have investigated any belief systems? Broadly speaking I think that therapies have their place in helping us to overcome the traumas and lacks in our lives, but when we've worked through those we are free to explore much wider concerns such as why we're here, what's the point, where's the meaning? Big stuff! Maybe there's a danger in focussing too much on the self? You certainly don't sound self-obsessed in your talks - you sound friendly and warm, so I am sure you easily attract and keep friends. I don't find socialising easy, but have been attending men's groups for 5 years. We sit in a circle - pref outside, weather permitting - am in London, so not all year! We can be as open as we like, and new men are always coming, so the vibe is always changing. You have a very good balance - living your life and then trying the theories. Too many do it the other way round! Anyway, be well and be happy, Jared, greetings from Chelsea, London, U.K., Robert.

@@robertriordan1823 Thank you Robert, it was great to hear a bit about yourself and your experiences. In regards to your question on spirituality and faith, I grew up Christian and after encountering Jung I would say my understanding of God has changed, and in some ways has become deeper. I will release a video talking about faith and dreams. Actually, on the topic of dreams, while we are exchanging our experiences, you might like to hear about how my dream journal began. I'm sure I'll put it into a future video but basically I went to this Christian church not far from me at the time and there were traveling guest speakers whose ministry was all about interpreting dreams. They were there until past midnight interpreting people's dreams out the front. They prayed we would all receive some gift of dreaming. I went home that night and dreamed of this voice that said 'new wine, new wine, new wine' and for 2 years after that I dreamed every night, often 5 times a night. So that's how it started but I was always interested in dreams even as a child. Glad that you've found a group to socialise with, it is important to have those aspects in life. All the best along your journey!

@@libraryofthemind Thank you for being so open, Jared. You have certainly given me a lot of food for thought, to which I will reply more fully when I have let it steep for a while; perhaps I will even dream up an unexpected reply! In the meantime I am curious as to whether you were aware of Christ's parable when you had your dream of new wine? See Matt. 9:17 , Mark 2:22 and Luke 5:37. If life is a journey it is comforting to feel that we may be walking this part together, although we must be thousands of miles apart. God bless you, Robert.

Do you consider Junguian appropriate is effective for childhood developmental trauma and childhood abuse..? I found that from that abandonment I struggled to find a deep connection to myself, my true self, life itself.. I also learned from a very early age to be on my own, be alone.. even I know tons of people.. I struggle with trust and intimacy from the abuse.. I did 3 ys of psychoanalysis and I felt I lacked empathy from my therapist.. I lacked the support to grieve what I’ve lost.. and the pain of the abuse.. everything was looked through the lens of analysis wich felt a bit too rational.. in moments of emotional release.. I felt I could not develop and emotional bond of trust with my analyst as I wanted or needed and I even felt judged sometimes cause of the amount of sadness I bring into the therapy… cause of her cold approach and energy. I’m a very sensitive and intuitive woman, and I could feel her uncomfortable with the amount of sadness I had…I had some tense sessions and even big disagreements with the analyst and I found it hard to relax around her.. but im still deeply interested in this approach.. just not sure if it’s the best for this type of traumas.. / experiences… just curious on your opinion. Thanks always for your work
