I know Jung studied Taoist literature. I like the idea that while the Taoists value the "spontaneous" and natural, that Jung's project of actualizing the self and the personality could be conceptualized as spontaneous and natural. For instance, if I feel an emotional tug of the heart to go do something to fulfill my personality, that would be following the Tao, I like to think.

Elvan 08 ; i agree with you on that my friend. I began following one 25 years ago and it been long and tough. I've thought several time that it would have been easier to go back and living less aware or less awake but even if I tried was futile as I'm sure you know yourself because once an opening had been made there's is little chance you can regress and the reason is simple. You cannot lie to yourself like it the past, the process is underway . Anyway even if I could feel alone many time I don't regret my choice as it's the only valuable way to live my life now.

@@DarkAngelEU Well, in today’s western societies we view people who have a “sensible taste in fashion” with certain admiration (even if that’s not always the case). By caring about their appearance and presenting themselves in a fashionable manner, they portray an image of order… which humans very much crave.

Always enjoy your content. The “Individuation process” seems to result in the sense of being completely alone and outside of the collective entirely, as a state of mind. We must physically exist among the group, so balance is essential. I often wonder about the ability to function well and retain a healthy balance within society while developing as an individual. A life long process, perhaps.

Lest someone ask for the moon but you find them hanging off the end of your finger. Good use of well chosen quotes and sense that this is not to be achieved, more that the freeing up and letting go of our internal and external goals up in a way that grants us the eternal now that in looking for, we could never find.

PS: I awoke this morning thinking in correlation to this very understanding.I was thinking about how to express certain concepts and began to see a jig saw puzzle that reached further than the eyes could see ( universal scale), yet I held one piece in my hand that could speak to the all other pieces and gain a perception of the whole. It was all golden, yet there were many layers of subliminal 'luminous landscapes' that lay beneath it. Similarly, if we achieve this one 'true' piece of ourselves- of individuated personality, then we can perhaps speak to the whole person and gain insight from this in enhancement and exponential power of being- who we are? Like magnification, and become quite magnificent!

Dear Carl Jung, with that wry smile in his eyes, and such a profound offering to us all to have his succinct well constructed writings and research available. Thank you. I am in agreement with all the words written here and would like to add a proposition? I was speaking with a pastor once and innocently came out with that' the holy spirit was the Person of God' as collective of All traits and unified as One within the Light of Spirit- it cannot be the person'ality' - as it is not 'of' or like the Person in part -as it is the wholeness of person in totality. While Our greatest achievement is to achieve personality in its fullness within our individuality. Does that make sense to anyone else? One master design, many computations - but meaningful one in Spiritual nature.

This video is about me. It explains my life choices and my insistence on suffering since quitting college to find "my own path". Were it not for the internet, I would think myself entirely alone as the only individual in a worldwide herd of mindless droids. Even now I wonder if all reality is some product of my imagination. As I have never met anyone, or had a real-world experience where I have encountered another genuine personality as I myself have. I acquired it at great personal cost and without any yet realized benefit. For me, it has been only a curse. but I feel it is more important than the happy ignorant bliss of the herd. However, so far, it's worth is unknown to me or anyone else. I suppose the shit must hit the fan of our society before my individuality gains purpose? Should I wish for such? Isn't that selfish? Is my "personality" nothing but my own arrogant self-centered superiority complex? How would I know if I had ever met another personality? How do I know if my own is actually genuine? If it is, why has it been hated, tortured and abandoned by my wife, friends, family and even my own children despite having/showing nothing but love for all of them? If I have developed a genuine personality, it is as rare as it appears to be and as important for human-kind as Jung claims, then what do you suggest I do with it? Because now, with my 40th birthday approaching, I have less than I did the minute I was born...

What a powerful post you shared! I am 44. Have been consciously onto the path of self-realization for about 11 years. One part of the journey is about understanding when it is completed. From the point of completion you can grow endlessly. I felt called very early on to meet several enlightened masters. That helped me a lot to geige my development. There is a guy called Paul Ferrini who has a twelve step road map concerning the spiritual transformations that we progress through on our way to self-realization. Recommended!

Alexander Grothendieck is convinced that each person has a “mission” and that an important part of this mission consists of finding one’s self, of recognizing one’s own self. Only through this search are a person’s creative powers liberated, for they are ordinarily suppressed in many ways through the constraints of society and through inner torpor, which prevent their unfolding. ``The only God is silent. And when He speaks, it is in such a low voice that nobody ever understands.''

He is saying that in the process of becoming an individual a person comes to the realization that they are distinct from others. It's like leaving the womb, or leaving a childhood home, or saying goodbye to parents. The departure is lonely but hopefully a brief passage into self-realization and the recognition that nothing has been lost and everything has been gained. It is always easier to remain cloaked within the collective, to never leave, but if we do not individuate we sacrifice both creativity and freedom.

@@bobwilkinsonguitar6142 That's correct. Loneliness and isolation are a side effect of the undertaking--which I'll mention goes on in a particular type of person, even if they don't understand what is happening at all. This person may experience a deep anguish, sadness, and loneliness for years (a true "dark night of the soul"); but if the path is not abandoned, it will lead to the greatest treasure one can attain. One then re-engages with the outer world in a totally different way, sharing the bounty of his/her treasure with the world.

I feel like this 'call for personality' is the reason why people are into superheroes so much. (Super)heroes are basically 'personalities' incarnate. Batman is a perfect example of this. He achieved 'personality' (like many superheroes) through severe adversity - the death of his parents and his feeling of guilt. That instilled in him his own 'law' which is similar to the law of the society he's in, but he takes it much more seriously. He isn't afraid to fight for this law in ways that are far out of social convention. He isn't just one of the herd but a kind of leader. I think many people see this and naturally gravitate towards admiration and wanting to be like him or other (super)heroes for that matter.

Collectivist ideologies are about uniting people around the common goal, not about devaluing the individual.

We here in india ., strong cultures and families itself provide the backbone to negative forces. Parents, friends , teachers help to cope up for vulnerables. Kindness is supreme idea . Understanding totally is the second. So religions taught us to be kind. I agree many religious ideas are foolish but not so foolish to ignore it completley.

@Stan matthers How about you, Stan? Have you resolved all of your fears? Are you a truly liberated soul, a rare one? I have been through the terror, but the fears are not yet entirely left behind.

This is fantastic stuff. So awakening, However, I am puzzled by Jung's use of the term 'his law'. What exactly is the individuals 'law'?

Can someone give me an example of someone in history who has achieved this whole personality which Jung speaks of? Very curious.

Jung’s thoughts on the achievement of personality seem to have a Nietzschean flavour to them. I guess it’s unsurprising given the influence of Nietzsche’s works on Jung

In some religion in India they would have called that the the awakening of the true self. This self is kind of covered by another entity created by Manas ( the mental part of the brain and chitta ( the memory ) they create ahankara or the Ego or false self. My know how on this is small but those concept have been invented thousands of years before Jung ( that doesn't altered his beautiful work).

Yi ching: Overwhelmed - try to salvage the truth This is an indicator of what's happening in the world right now. -------- I'm saying overdose. Then I'm saying, okay, just overwhelmed, a lot of things happening externally at once, not an internal overdose. Then I'm saying something even more diminished than that. ---------- My commentary is essential. ----------- What's left behind from the initial excitement are full bars Those are positive and not detrimental. ----------- Framed hexagram reading: "I was experiencing a mystical vision where a divine astral being simply told me names of plants in their garden. This coincided to emptiness in my waking life garden (plants, yet no people)." ------------- As you ease away from the reading, your ability to use the benefits increases and the overwhelmed feelings decrease. It's impossible to ease away without breaking it into stages Totally overwhelmed And diminishing Until calm Total overwhelmed is the original hexagram and the only possible choice All the others are found as the reader backs away from the central reading (only means to disrupt the overwhelming feelings and return to base reality) Therefore the entire book relays one heavenly family, in fact one universal being (Tao) and scoffs at misuse and misinterpretations which try to align it with fate because its premise is unbreakable and eternal, in truth it is not something thrown to the wind. At each stage There are very formal very beautiful Dignified plateaus returning the soul to mundane incarnation (rectifie) From a heavenly island Always with more than they need, From an inexhaustible source (Heaven)
