10.0 flat, these times are why Bob Hayes was the fastest human ever, in 1964 in Yokyo he ran a 9.91 in yhe semi final with the wind meter 1.0 over allowed then ran 10.05 slowing down on his last 2 strides ans one important thing, this was on a cinder (YES COMPACTED DIRT) track. and it WAS electronic as this Olympics was the first to use electronic timing, the company Sieko handled that. his 8.6 on his anchor leg in the 4x100 is still to this day the fastest any sprinter has covered 100m

Actually although it can't always be trusted Wiki says the wind speed in the semi was 5.3 m/s which of course is 3.3 m/s over the limit. But on a modern tartan track with modern training methods and diet I'm sure Bob could have run 9.89

that's because carl accelerates to 60 whereas the rest have maxed out at that stage. hes maintaining whereas the rest are decelerating. looks crazy but its a fact

@@patricksweeney5308 his coach Tom tellez had all his sprinters accelerate over 60m. Marsh, Burrell, lewis, witherspoon etc.

They're all really blazing it but Bolt 25 years later would have been over 4 metres ahead. Frightening.
@brianjackson5732 Жыл бұрын
Not really. You have to consider the track surfaces, shoes, dieting, and training that was available at that time. He could have been faster, but I doubt that it would have been much faster. It's not really fair to compare different eras. It's like comparing a 2023 5.0 against a 1985 Porsche turbo. 330 horsepower in Porsche was a handful back in 1985 but modern day SUVs can now have more horsepower.
@ewaf88 Жыл бұрын
@@brianjackson5732 Well it's just a fun comparison , but it would be interesting to see how Carl Lewis would have got on against Bolt had they been in the same age group
@brianjackson5732 Жыл бұрын
@@ewaf88 I don't disagree. Bolt's pure power versus Lewis' grace with weight training, track surfaces, and training techs being equal would have been a blast to watch.
@ewaf88 Жыл бұрын
@@brianjackson5732 Yes it would. Lewis would have had a real rival and would have trained harder. I still think Bolt would have been supreme in the 200 though

What happened to the East German Men? There were at least 3 East Germans, in the Women's race.
@samhardy63193 жыл бұрын
According to Charlie Francis, Ben Johnson's coach, in his book "Speed Trap" he explained that while the East German women were organized extremely men, the men were under a different, less structured system. Yes, they were on state sponsored drugs programmes, but they had great physio support and coaching support, too. Sadly, there seems to be a lot of suggestion of cheating by Finns, Americans, and plenty of other athletes from the West.

It amazes me how slow Carl Lewis actually was by today's standards!
@martinmcgee16 жыл бұрын
he was the fastest back then. the ceiling was soo high! better drugs nowadays when you see the likes of blake and co running 19.2 for 200m which is insane and hilarious tbh
@brianjackson5732 Жыл бұрын
You can say the same thing about cars. The 1985 Porsche turbo was a widow Maker because of the turbo rush you got when the 330 or so horsepower kicked in. It was a handful. Now, your mom's SUV can have more horsepower. You have to look at eras in their ears. Carl Lewis and the word slow should never appear in the same sentence as interchangeable terms.

Everybody lifts seriously in sprinting these days. Lewis didn't lift at all until 1995 or 1996. Fewer TOP black sprinters doped in the 80s.

training hasn't changed. Charlie francis who coached ben(2nd in this race) used short to long approach and bolts coach trevor francis has used a similar coaching programme. charlie francis was probably the best sprint coach ever and the information he had was unbelieveable. drugs have allowed athletes to train longer into the season and throughout the season without being detected. read dwain chambers book.....read about trevor graham and victor conte! theyhad a system where athletes could not be caught! could not be caught!!!!!!!!! only for graham told authorities what was going on marion jones, Montgomery,chambers and co would still be flying to this day
