Lewis went by Christie easily. In the final when he ran a legal 9.86 WR he had a much harder time getting by everyone which he barely did. He looked better in this heat just floating along the track.

fun fact, Carl NEVER broke 10 seconds without a trailing wind. he ran a 10.00 in 1981 with 0.0 wind and his final PB of that 9.86 represents an improvement of just 0.06s over his entire career of 15 years. (when converted for wind) So if anyone suggests he was on PEDs, then if he was, they were not worth it. BJ managed to improve a whopping 0.5s in 2 years.

Yes, sad really, regarding Carl's penchant for letting up at the end of races. He often began celebrating or showing off in the final few strides. He'd be the original version of the modern day NFL running back dropping the ball before running across the goal line for a TD. Another way of saying it? Lewis once infamously did the exact same thing in the 200m where he could have set a WR by finally erasing Pietro Minnea's longstanding WR; but, alas, Lewis glided in, hands up in the air as I recall and missed the mark. Lewis, in doing so, wiped his name from the record books for the 200m forever. No discredit, though, to his athletic prowess. He was a great sprinter and long jumper.

He typically let up at the end of races in the qualifying heats because he was merely trying to advance to the next round and preserve energy at the same. I've never seen Carl ease up before the finish line in a final(other than the aforementioned 200m-when he was only 22 years old). Because he was always doing either 4(100,200,LJ, 4x100) or a minimum of 3(100, LJ, 4x100) events, preserving energy was always the focus with him.

Carl Lewis is the greatest athlete of all time. The King of the sport. There is nothing about his running or results that suggest use of illegal drugs; slow starter, taking the longest time to pick up speed (technique) and then leaving the pack because of it starting after about six seconds, and improving less over ten years then Bolt did in only one. The incredible accomplishment of winning Olympic gold an event like the long jump 4 TIMES IN A ROW, is furthermore such a quality statement of his athletic ability. The greatest legend of all.

However they are all very close and regardless of steroid users since 1960, national drug programs in the 1980s, professional drug cycling doctors in the 1990s and "our drug testing lab is a dusty shed" Jamaicans of the 2000-2010s Carl Lewis did take advantage of the rules as much as they did, he just sidestepped steroids and took HGH and stimulants instead, watch some of his post race interviews late 80s he is basically on meth. So his races shouldnt be viewed as "oh its even better because the others were on roids" The fact he was Vegan however puts a sword to the myth that eating meat and dairy is any good for sports. All do respect but, no he wasn't. None of that is substantiated(doing the exact same thing). Carl and Ben at the 1984 Olympics 100m- Carl 9.99 vs Ben 10.22 ......fast forward to1988 Olympic 100m- Carl 9.92 vs Ben 9.79. If they were doing the same thing, the results were sure not the same. Also, as much as Carl use to rub people(the media/Olympic committee/other athletes) the wrong way, they were itching to catch him at something. Hence the positive test for pseudoephedrine, ephedrine and phenylpropanolamine back in 1988......all over the counter substances found in cough and nasal decongestion medicine. So in other words, he was treating a cold, not taking steroids'. Carl was definitely a snitch, but not a cheater. Just because others are testing positive like Ben, doesn't mean everyone was guilty. If we're going with that logic, then Usain Bolt was definitely cheating(5 to 6 of his teammates were caught).

Lewis did it coming out of high school though. He was a lot skinnier as a teenager before going to college in Houston then he bulked up very quickly. Coaches witnessed this. This was when colleges would give athletes bowls full of tablets to take (testosterone and other things).

@@gmaxsfoodfitness3035 Most boys bulk up tremendously coming out of high school. 18 year olds average 20-30 lb weight gains in 6 weeks of military basic training, as did I. And Lewis never got that big.

That doesn't make sense. This was a big tailwind so it helped Carl run a lot faster. A big headwind would make him run a lot slower. It's simple. Have you not run in the wind before? Edit: With no wind this race is around 10 seconds. 4.3 m/s is a lot of wind.

This time was ran wit 4,3 wind in favour. So it's not 9,80!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It'd be a 10.00 with a legal wind (2,00). Considering Lewis began to decelarate at 90 meters we could say he would've ran 9.93-9-95 if he'd push to the limit
@timn4481
@timn4481 2 жыл бұрын
wrong. convert to 2 m/s and its a difference of 0.14. so a 9.94. convert to zero wind and its a 10.06. google it.

A crazy 4.3 m/s wind. That 9.80 is at least 2 tenths of a second faster than without wind. Also Lewis eased up in the last 3 or 4 strides so he only lost a few hundredths not even a tenth of a second. Have you never seen race analysis before? 0m-90m was run at full speed and it's not liked he walked the last 10 meters.

You do understand what drugs Carl tested positive for, I hope. There are some people out there who pretend to equate inadvertently testing positive for nasal decongestants with deliberate use of anabolic steroids. Not exactly identical "offenses".
