Carl Palmer, mesmerizing driving 14 minute acapella thru Copeland's Fanfare Of The Common Man.

By chance I witnessed on 11 March 2018 this world-class epiphany by drummer Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake & Palmer). He was mesmerizing like an Olympic gymnast, but with only two sticks and a foot drum to play Aaron Copland's masterpiece, "Fanfare For The Common Man." In Brubeck's classic "Take Five," Joe Morello plays acapella for 2", while Palmer's dramatic momentum builds and soars here for 14". Give him a few minutes to build his rhythm, and OMG.

I have seen him twice both at small venues. My all time favorite percussionist! Everytime amazing with the sticks! He is very entertaining as well as humble. He signed my tour shirt & posed for a picture. He remarked that it was my third time seeing him perform? It was actually twice but of all the people he sees he remembered my face two years in a row.

Wonderful and thanks. i've seen ELP 3 times with all three of them. First time was in 1974 in Albuquerque New Mexico (in 4 channel sound) when i was stationed in Clovis NM at Cannon AFB. I still have the "ELP" patch sewed on my old field jacket

Had the pleasure, honor to see ELP 2x & Asia. Yes Carl is one of the worlds top percussionists. He inspired me in school. One concert, at the August Jam, Charlotte motor speedway, with the entire Peach label of fine Southern groups, (headline - the Allman brothers) ELP played just before. Works 1 had been released, Tarkus, the encore.

Thanks for the upload Andrew Schwartzman. Palmer is still killing it at 68 years old! Palmer is the most underrated drummer, EVER! I just Googled "greatest drummers of all time" and Rollingstone mag does't even have him in the top 100. Are you kidding me!? Modern Drummer has him ranked 41 out of 50 (they have Peart at 3) I will never understand why he is so underrated. IMO, it's Palmer and then Peart. If you wanna say Peart was the greatest, that is fine with me, but why isn't Palmer ever in the same conversation? Palmer's drum solo on "Welcome Back My Friends" - Karn Evil 9, is the greatest drum solo that I've ever heard. Oh well, we all have our opinions, even if they are wrong.

Always an excellent player. His passion for playing drums drives him to mix it up as well as keeping his signature riffs. He has inspired me to play since I saw him with ELP's performance at the California Jam. I saw his band live in a small venue in 2014. The force and Power in which he hit the drums was AMAZING! Hi Andrew, forgot to say thanks for sharing this video. I saw Carl exactly 2 weeks after you did & OMGosh...I was so amazed! I never had the fortune of seeing ELP nor Asia, so Carl was going to be my only chance to get a feel for what it might have been like to experience ELP. He did NOT disappoint!!!! Not sure if you belong to the ELP fan appreciation FB page that I do but you should post this video there if you do. I don't remember seeing it. I was most excited about hearing Carl do this song but in actuality, it was Trilogy that wiped me out. I fought back tears the whole song. Carl & his band are doing a very righteous job of paying homage to ELP. He drums with so much passion...but it was how often he smiles while playing that grabbed my heart. He obviously loves doing what he does best...drumming! He is (still) a drumming beast! Great video!!!!

Saw EL&P live as one of my first concerts; probably the Works I tour, minus the orchestra (if I remember correctly). It was everything that my young mind could have hoped for. While there are comments on his "timekeeping," that didn't seem critical to ELP; his virtuosity was evident. He FIT! The show was awe inspiring and technically he was a match for the music being created. I dare anyone to listen to BSS, Tarkus, etc., and not be stunned into silence by the interplay of those three musicians.
