I have to apologize to Carl for how much I took your hard work and talent for granted back in the day. You made it look so easy. Really enjoying these videos and interviews about you and your bandmates, which I love so much.

Man, Tony. You have outdone yourself with this one! I never saw this when it aired. I love it! Thank you so much. Really gives an insight as to how into exercise Carl really is, and this is part of what makes him the drummer/musician that he is.

And this was the pre Asia in Asia MTV Simulcast documentary which was superb - made slightly awkward by Wetton's departure and Greg Lake replacing him. Love the snare practice up in the mountains. Tony can we get more of this documentary?

He said for him it was better a girl than a boy, otherwise the boy would pick up drums and he had to teach him and the comparisons... At the end, he predicted... That baby girl is today a lawyer...

Yes a lovely man. We had a chat and then watched and laughed together as a group of drunken women began to shout and fight outside the Beaufort Ballroom in Ebbw Vale as their husbands tried to intervene c.2005. Great guy.

Carl is truly a nice person. His daughter IS a lawyer. And he is still in great shape. No smoking. Now vegan (mostly.) And his current wife keeps a CLOSE eye on him. 😉

@aleocampos95479 ай бұрын
Yeah, better to have a girl than a boy, otherwise he had to spend all the time teaching him to play drums and he could be compared to him. That's ridiculous and selfish!! I can't believe he said that. First, is your child, regardless is a boy or a girl, and second, there's plenty of musicians' sons who picked other things and not music. And those who picked music, they were fortunate to have fathers who taught them and never cared about comparisons at all, on the contrary, they encouraged to be better. That's what Keith Emerson did with his son and grandson, and he was VERY proud of them. Palmer had always an unbearable ego, really. Great drummer, no question about it (I loved him with Asia and ELP, especially through 1970-77), but when he opens his mouth, sometimes he oversteps the mark. I'm sorry, but it was unnecessary to said that. ...and yes, that little girl, Carissa, is now a lawyer. As daddy predicted...

What about is better having a girl instead of a boy??? Who says if he had a boy he would be a drummer, and he had to spend time teaching his son eveantually how to play ??? And the comparisons... perhaps if he had a son, and happened to be a drummer, Palmer would be upset if his son would be better than him??? On the contrary, if that would have happened, he should have been proud, not selfish. And come on, there are a lot of musicians' sons who choose to do other things. I mean, not because the father is a musician the son (or the daughter as well), should be a musician too. I can't believe he said that in those days, how ridiculous... oh btw, he said would be great if the girl would become a lawyer... well, Carissa is a lawyer. Did he planned the future for her???
@mwoods1052Ай бұрын
Wow you sound like a conspiracy theorists. I think you’re missing the point of it being dry English humor. Perhaps it went over your head?
@AleOcampo-wi8vdАй бұрын
@@mwoods1052 well, well... I understand perfectly English humor. Let's put the lawyer thing aside, it's most likely a joke (although oddly enough, Carissa did become a lawyer); but... "Believe it or not, it's great having girl than a having a boy, because I tell you, if I had a boy, just think I'd have to spend all the time teaching him how to play, and he would always be compared to me. But when you have a girl, there are more things she can be involved". My humble apologies, but that doesn't sound so very English humor to me... I remember back then, when I listened to him saying that (and I was 19 back then), it didn't sound that kind to me. As a matter of fact, he is not a very sentimentalist guy; he admitted it in an interview, in Argentina. But in those days, I was a big fan of him, I loved Asia (still do, of course, as well ELP). Not much today, but I do have a huge respect for him for being a genius as a percussionist. I perfectly understand British humor, but, "better a girl than a boy"??? He even said that when he became a granddad for the first time. He admitted telling his daughter that Hugo should be anything but a drummer, a Formula 1 driver, whatever, but not a drummer, because there are many drummers in the family (Carl, his nephew Ian and his brother Simon). Just my thoughts...
