Nice clip from the Albert Gannaway-produced "Stars of the Grand Ol'Opry" shows shot in Bradley's Quonset Hut (Barn) in 1953-54. Carl playing a Frank Gay (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) guitar. His 3 big Tunesmith band members behind him: Junior Husky on bass, Johnny Sibert on steel and Sammy Pruett on guitar. Carl recorded this number originally - Flatt & Scruggs had a nice cover not long thereafter.

This series was produced from 1952 into the '60' at various locations in Nashville Called "Grand Ole Opry Stars Of The '50's". It was made at the Quoset Hut, Vanderbilt University then Owen Bradley's Barn out of Nashville. A 12 set VHS series; each being 45 min. Long. It was filmed in color with a 35mm movie camera, Al Gannaway Productions out of Hollywood was in charge. The Grand Ole Opry had nothing to do with them. The set is still available, (but hard to get). amazon has them. Ask Google for Grand Ole Opry Stars Of The '50's, dozens will come up. Also, ask for Al Gannaway Shows.

June Brown -June, I bought my set some years ago; I just talked to the shop that had them and was told that he did not have the complete set anymore, however, he can get volume #7, 8, 11 and 12. There were 12 volume all total. What he has, #8 is Carl Smith, Ernest Tubb, Faron Young and more. Here is the phone number, and if it doesn't go thru, let me know and we' ll go the E-mail route.

Thanks Bob Harris - I just checked a set of CD's my husband bought on line a few years ago and it is on one of them. Thank you

June Brown -June, I have done some checking to try to help you out on this series. I checked Ernest Tubb Record Shop in Nashville and was told they could not get them anymore. She said Amazon might have them, I called Amazon, the girl said they had the 12 volume VHS set for $24.95. I knew this was not right, but she said it was used. Now, she had a thick accent and I was not able to communicate with her. If you like, you can call and perhaps you'll get an english speaking person. I'm not sure if you want the whole set or if you're interested in that one particular song; however, if you really like Carl Smith, let me recommend this to you; go to U-Tube, ask for "Waylon Jennings and Carl Smith Medley". You will really like this, it was made about '95, and they sing a bunch of Carl's songs. Let me know what you think. You can try Amazon if you want.
