In 1967 they played the world series games during the day. I would sneak a transistor radio into class in 9th grade and listen to the game in the back of the class, which of course was strictly forbidden. Not being able to see the game and only relying on the play-by-play announcer made the game seem bigger than life. An epic struggle for glory. Yaz was my favorite. When he came to bat, you had the feeling that he was superman, and anything was possible. Red Sox down 2 to 1 in the bottom of the 6th. Suddenly, the word goes out from the back row - Yaz just hit a 2-run homer to put the Sox up by 1. An epic game played by giants as much in my imagination as in real life.

1967 Yaz had one of the most impressive and magnificent performances in MLB history as he led the American League in batting average, runs scored and hits. He led the Majors in homers, runs batted in, on base percentage, slugging percentage, on base plus slugging combined percentage and total bases. What The Splendid Splinter did in 16 seasons between 1939 and 1960, Yaz in nearly a quarter of a century with the Red Sox became an all time favorite and legend of the game.

Outside of New England quite possibly the most underrated superstar in the game. As far as offensively, defensively and coming up big in big situations his 67 season will never be duplicated.

I grew up about halfway between Chicago and Detroit and saw Yaz play many times in the 60's against the White Sox and the Tigers. Anyone who saw him play knew he was Hall of Fame quality.

Favorite player as a kid. Loved when he stepped up to bat, pick up some dirt, then hold that bat real high and swing so hard

My favorite player growing up and a lifelong Red Sox fan. First time I went to Fenway Park, 1967 and I was 7 years old. Triple Crown winner that year and wouldn't be done again for 40 years.

Yaz was always my favorite ballplayer ever! I actually changed my first name to Carl when I started Jr. High in 1970...long story!! 😊 I also have 95% of all the baseball cards ever printed of him!! I saw his last home run he ever hit. I was living in Cleveland suburbs at the time and went to the last weekend series he played at old municipal stadium!! There he hit #452, the last of his career!! Thank you Yaz 4 the memories!!

I'll never forget when the Sox swept the defending American League champs and World Series winners, the Oakland A's. Reggie Jackson hit a ball off the Green Monster and thought he had an easy double. After Yaz threw Reggie out, Jackson just stood there and looked out at Captain Carl in disbelief!!

When I was a young kid I used to think that yaz was overrated because I grew up in Southern Connecticut and I was a Yankees fan and I thought that Boston fans were putting him on a pedestal But what the heck did I know at age 10 lol but after researching his career he was the real deal and one helluva player Power and average and hits and a clutch player and solid in the field too .
