This is a documentary/promotional film produced by Morrison-Knudsen, documenting their construction of a causeway across the Great Salt Lake for Southern Pacific RR. This causeway replaced the wooden trestle which was part of the original Lucin Cutoff.

00:19 Looks like that initial blast was a bit bigger than expected. A power line is engulfed by debris with a magnificent fireworks show.. Somebody lost their job over that goof.

MK Corp did a good job when they buit it but four decades later it turned into one of the worst environmental disasters in history. When the causeway was built across Salt Lake it turned Gunnison Bay and Willard Bay into a toxic red soup. The reason being was the causeway collapsed under its own weight and the culverts that was constructed in 1952 to help the water flow through the massive causeway were clogged with silt and rock shutting them down forever in 2003. In 2016 after seeing a gruesome photo taken from the International Space Station by Jeff Williams Union Pacific organized a team of geologists from the US Geological Survey and the Army Corps of Engineers plus workers who built the original Causeway to head out onto the lake and save it from complete ecosystem collapse. What they did was they had to shore up the original Causeway by dumping rock into the lake in places where it had sank the original culverts built in 1952 were taken out and replaced and at the entrance of Gunnison Bay Union Pacific build a bridge so the waters of the lake flow freely between the North Arm the East Arm and the Blue Waters of the South Arm. During the transfer process the lake level dropped and Union Pacific has to wait until spring for the lake to fill back up again as the Wasatch Mountains melt and fill the lake back up with water.
