Thankyou for the video, honestly was so helpful! I'm an exchange student from Australia studying at Carleton in the fall. I was just wondering if you knew much about residence waitlists. I'm currently 31-35 on the waitlist and am very much wanting to live on campus so I'd love your thoughts on whether you think I will get a placement or not? :)

AH no problem! Honestly, I have no idea. Have you been moving up the waitlist quickly? Just to be safe, make sure you have a backup plan of where to live if you don’t get residence. Welcome to Carleton though! You’ll love it. :)

AH TYSM! :D ik I realized this whole video was about Residence, I’ll probs make another. Party/ social life is GREAT. If you’re 18, everyone goes to Gatineau to club and if your 19 there are a ton of places to go in Ottawa. There are also some frat parties usually at the beginning of each semester which are fun, but I think if u want to continue going to them u have to be apart of Greek life. There’s also some residence parties and yeah a ton of clubs u can join :)

Hi, this video was rlly helpful! I’m thinking of going to Carleton and possibly majoring in journalism as well. What is the application process like for journalism? Do you have to submit a portfolio? Or is that built throughout your undergrad?

Ahhh thank you!! Oh sweet. No there’s no specific process, when applying all you have to do is specify that you want to go into the journalism program. I believe u also have to have a certain grade in English to get in

I’ll be starting at Carleton in the fall and I am so freaked out! What if I hate my roommate? What if my classes are harder than I expected? What if I messed up somewhere along the line and I’m not registered right? High school prepared me for nothing!

HAHA you were me!!! I was so nervous but honestly don’t be. Just remember literally everyone is nervous! If you hate ur roommate, you can fill out a form and switch so no worries. I found that classes weren’t necessarily harder, just different. Instead of having small assignments you have really big ones that are worth a lot so you have to learn how to manage ur time. That was the biggest thing I had trouble with. If you’re not registered right, you’ll get an email :) anything regarding registration ask your program counselor they will give u all the answers! Mh biggest rip: don’t be afraid to ask for help! UR GONNA HAVE SO MUCH FUN

Just wondering if you think it’s worth buying a printer or just paying to use the Carleton printers

Honestly nah save the money and just use the carleton printers. If u print A LOT tho, maybe buy one. It is convenient to have it in ur room and u might need it when u live off campus so actually wait maybe. LOL it’s not necessary but if u have extra money sure!

Do you know how Carleton compares to queen’s in academics? I got into arts & science at both and I’m unsure which would be a better fit. Would I be able to transfer out of arts & sci or am I stuck?

I’m not sure! I know both are great schools, it really depends on the program. I know Carleton is pretty good in their science and engineering areas as well as linguistics. But I can’t give u a direct answer. I would look on both websites and maybe like reddit? Also if you have the chance to visit both I HIGHLY recommend. and yes ofc you can transfer out!

What does Greek life all contain? There seems to be so many sororities and frats, but are they really worth while?

it’s definitely not a big thing, but I know some people who are in Greek life. The parties are really fun, I don’t really know what they do though. I think if you like being surrounded by a bunch of people a good amount of the time and having activities with them you’ll like it? LOL I honestly don’t know but I’ve heard good things. You can rush which means like you can go and visit different sororities. Definitely rush if ur thinking about it!

What is the process once you have accepted the offer

Basically you’ll accept and then put down a deposit for residence. Once you get res, you fill out a form talking about urself so u can get matched with a roommate. Then, I believe in August u register for classes!

AW thank you!! Don’t be nervous. Easier said than done but everyone is in the same boat. Everyone’s nervous about starting, so it’s really easy to meet friends. Just be yourself and be kind to everyone you meet!

yay! I didn't have too much of a hard time transitioning, I think the biggest shock was having a ton of free time and managing it. Also, you HAVE to study for things. In high school I could get by a test by studying like the night before, but you CANNOT do that here. :D But overall its not bad!!
