Trash-talking is part of the culture of street-chess. The constant chatter to distract your opponent is a long-standing tradition going back a couple of centuries, and across at least two continents. To complain about it is to miss the entire point. You will notice that none of the GMs and IMs playing in these videos ever complain.

Sajid Mahmud - I dunno man. Ya know how boring it would be to me to watch games over and over of a silent old dude and kid playing chess? And even if you're there strictly for the chess, you could just watch videos of the animated board simulations between two computers. The talking and silly banter made this way more entertaining to me.

Hmmm banter has to include BOTH parties. At the point which Carlini doesn't get a response from the kid, he should either be shutting up with the trash talk or invite the kid to chat with him. Otherwise he's just talking to himself and his main objective in doing so is to become a distraction for his opponent

@@parkinfurkmaz2877 - I see your point but for some reason this felt like an informal and less important match. And his talking didn't seem like trash talk at all. The knight will eventually get the enemy pawn and then with his own pawn queen. An example would be Kf5, Nb4, Ke4, Kg6, Ke3, Kf6, Kf2, Nc6, Kf3, Ne5+, Ke2, Nxg4 and afterwards black is just up a knight and a pawn and it should be an easy win.

Carlini lost with knight to F1 at 8:27. He was up in material at that point, but that knight had no board presence in the previous turns. On that crucial move, he could have played knight to F3 and threatened the queen, play would have continued with the 15 yr. old being left with queen to E7 as his only acceptable move. Instead he was able to attack with his rook, and play queen to E7 next turn when Carlini withdrew his other knight to F3.

Curious and trying to pick up the game - at 10:14, why doesn't Carlini just use his Rook to take down the Rook threatening his King? Carlini's Rook would then be safe as the other guy can't risk moving his Queen to take it because that would leave his King open to Carlini's Queen.

Tried playing this "OK to take the King" variation with a friend, but ran into an unusual situation I'd like clarification on... he missed that he was in check by my bishop, but his next move was to put me in checkmate with his Queen. His argument is that I can't win by taking his King because I'm in checkmate. He dumb right? lol. Although, it does raise an interesting question. Does this rule mean that you could take a Queen that had you in checkmate and was defended by another piece, by pretending not to notice it just to have one last turn and lose your King next move?

Well, maybe the question is interesting to you, but the answer sure is simple: no.

Love these matches & pretty sure they should be televised because they break the mold and might attract a new generation of chess hustlers and masters who don't necessarily want to play in lab rat conditions.
