Carlisle is the smaller principal city of the Harrisburg−Carlisle Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Cumberland, Dauphin, and Perry counties in South Central Pennsylvania. In 2010, Forbes rated Carlisle and Harrisburg the second-best place to raise a family.
The U.S. Army War College, located at the Carlisle Barracks, prepares high-level military personnel and civilians for strategic leadership responsibilities. Carlisle Barracks ranks among the oldest U.S. Army installations and the most senior military educational institution in the United States Army. Carlisle Barracks is home of the United States Army Heritage and Education Center, an archives and museum complex open to the public. Carlisle also hosts Penn State Dickinson School of Law and Dickinson College.

Where I live here in Western PA we have a lot of abandoned businesses where the building is abandoned and allowed to deteriorate and the municipality does nothing about it. Yet on this drive I see NO abandoned businesses. I don't think Carlisle is much richer than we are, it appears middle class, though there may be a bad part of town not shown here. How do they do it? What does the city do to keep the deterioration away? Actually where my niece lives in Cleveland looks a bit like this.

I didn't see many run down or abandoned areas in Carlisle. I'm guessing maybe it's due to the college being there?

@@MileageMikeTravels I think some cities just keep up with the demolition better than mine does. Even a blank lot is better than a bad building. I notice even Detroit is demolishing a lot of bad buildings and they are probably one of the poorest cities in America but somehow their leaders are interested enough to get it done. Again, I do not think Carlisle is rich at all but they must have better code enforcement.

Carlisle is the County seat, and it not only has Dickinson College to support it, but also the Army War College. There are rough sections, but this drive captures some of the better spots

there is a preservation effort in Carlisle, as well as industry, military and hospitals and other jobs to keep it up

It's a large logistics center for Amazon and other large companies, so there is adequate employment.
