In general, this is a splendid collage of video snippets. Endearing to see Carlos with an anxious look on his face before he starts conducting -- wonderfully -- "The Gypsy Baron" for the dancers. Note that several members of the orchestra tatooed their music stands when he took the podium. Good job by Luciano Pavarotti knocking down stereotypes about Carlos allegedly being hard to work with.

Oh dear! A lot of arguments over German, English etc. I have tried to learn German throughout life but never mastered it to understand this film. The point is that films about Carlos Kleiber are rare and this one looks particularly interesting. I can guess a little, knowing some of his public story but not enough. Considering Carlos still has a following sub titles would be helpful etc. English was his mother tongue and he spoke about six languages. Some of us are not so gifted although we have tried. Might I suggest a bit more tolerance as we would all love to understand this film.

J M German is the most spoken language in all Europe. Europe does exist. The US is not the world. The British understand this, why not my fellow Americans?

@@mckavitt13 And English is the most spoken language in the world. Everyone knows that Americans don't learn other languages, sadly. But not providing English subtitles, if possible, is silly.

@@palladin331 Wrong. Mandarin, Spanish, then English.
@palladin3314 жыл бұрын
@@mckavitt13 Fine. But English is commonly known as the 'universal' international language. The actual number of speakers of a particular language is not relevant here; rather, it's the functionality over a broad base. Ideally, videos should be available with subtitles in several languages.

@becuadro 1000 I'm a professional translator (and I'm Austrian so I know who the people in this video are) and would like to add subtitles in English as there seem to be quite a number of requests in this thread for it - would you please allow this in your settings? (This is the message I got when I tried to add subtitles: "The video you requested isn't enabled for community contribution.")

Most of the world does not speak German - but many do and for those this is wonderful. Videos on Muti and Abbado are in Italian -that is the way things are. You obviously not only have language problems you also seem to lack the capacity to see further than the tip of your nose.

Millions of people speak German . Most of the world wouldn't be interested in the video. German French Spanish and Italian are pretty basic in western classical music. Other countries have great classical tradition Latvian Litauen Portuguese etc but not so much penetration in repertoire. English is a bit of a bugger to sing in. There is a lot of help in this video for English speakers.
