Cascadia DD13 and DD15 SPN 3720 FMI 15 DPF ASH CLEAN REQUEST

This fault code is actually very simple, it simply means the the DPF filters inside the One Box have reached their limit and require maintenance. They must be removed, inspected, baked and cleaned.
Detroit recommends to have the DPF filters exchanged with new or Reman, this of course would make the cost go up. But you always have the option of have the DPF filters baked and cleaned.
Once the filters are cleaned and ready, it does require:
2 NEW EXHAUST CLAMPS Part Number DDE A0004902241.
10 clips
10 bolts or screws
I personally prefer to remove the complete One Box from the truck, this allows for easier access to the DPF filters.
You will need the DDDL software in order to input the DPF serial numbers and reset the fault code.

Most of the filters start with the same serial number sequence. You can literally input any number , just start them with SHM124******* the color chord from red to green, then input the next numbers. Then hit save. This will reset the ash counter

It means the DPF needs to be serviced. Detroit used to recommend bake and cleaning but they have changed their service recommendations to replacing the DPF filters (applies to One Box). If you have the old style filter you can bake and clean.

Pedro se me prendió y lo anduve como 3000 millas porque agarré dos cargas llegue aquí a Miami le conectaron la computadora y le borraron eso le Pusieron los códigos de filtros y quedó todo en 0% mi camión tiene 550.000 y me dijeron que se da porque hacen idle pero mi camión tiene APU desde nuevo es decir que esos filtros me pueden aguantar más tiempo porque nunca ha estado en bajas revoluciónes que ese código se prende porque de fábrica le Ponen esas millas para que los Cambien pero dependiendo de las condiciones es decir camiones con APU no idle deben estar en mejores condiciones será que me aguanta unas 100000 millas más ? Dog efficiently could be the DPF themselves that are allowing soot to pass through or the One Box itself it letting soot through. Have you tried servicing the DPF’s?

THANK YOU! further question. I have spn 3720 fail 15. Will this prevent a manual regen? I can't manually regen. My check engine is on and on a recent trip my MIL for the after treatment system also came on and I was sweating bullets thinking I was going to be derated. I see to fix the 3720 check engine you need 2 serial numbers. Is there any way to get around this? Do regular dpf cleaning shops have these serial numbers? Do they get them only when they send the filters off to be officially baked and cleaned? Local freightliner dealer wants 2200 for remanufactured filters or I can pay about 1200 for a bake and clean in the New Orleans area, any advice?

The DPF serial numbers are actually on the DPF’s. Every DPF will have its own serial number. To be honest the numbers really don’t matter. This is just to reset the Ash Clean Request. There is no way to avoid the code from coming on. This is a calculated process with other MCM and ACM. It usually comes on after 200k miles (more or less). Think of it as normal maintenance. They can be bake and cleaned. Although Detroit now says you have to replace them with new DPF’s. Not sure how about that

You should be fine getting back to Fontana. Just make sure you get it taken care of. Most guys will try make another trip and then service the DPF. Your truck is performing the parked regen while you are driving. I don’t know anyone in the IE. Try looking up a shop that has been around. That would be your best bet.

Good question, there is no real limit except that you want to have it done asap because both DPF have reached their limit and you want to prevent any damage to the filters or One Box.

The only issue that comes to my mind is if the DOC and DPF are not dried out properly then when you go to do a regen the water turns into steams and May cause damage internally. This was something that was discussed a after treatment class I took some years ago.

The sooner the better. This means they have the maximum amount. It all depends on how many miles you drive and a few other factors.

Check your CAM lobes, it may be possible that it may have moved. When the overhead was done, how tight were the valves? Also, have your mechanic perform a cylinder cut out test to help determine the cylinder or injector misfire.

Regular maintenance (oil changes, fuel filter changes, and air filter change). Use good quality diesel (clean, not that cheap cloudy diesel). Use clean quality DEF in the jug not the pump. Valve adjustments on a regular basis.

That code can be intake pressure sensor, EGR pressure sensor (Delta P sensor), could be a CAC issue, turbo issue. There are many things to check. But start with the sensors or Delta P sensor and the Venturi pipe

The idea is to have it serviced asap. Also, you want to prevent any damage to the One Box. Not sure the how many miles you can drive before you have any issues. But you won’t get a derate when the CEL comes on.

A delete can be complicated, there shouldn’t be any active fault codes when it comes to the after treatment since it was deleted. I say drive the truck or take it back to shop or person that did the delete so he can make sure it was done correctly.

Difficult to say how long, the idea behind the reminder is to service the DPF system to prevent any damage to the One Box. The sooner the better. You can have the filters baked and cleaned or replace them with Reman or New units. Detroit recommends to have them exchanged.

The code logged 61/3720/15 (SA/SPN/FMI) Indicates Diesel Particulate Filter Ash Clean Request is Present Diesel Particulate Filter(s) are full of ash and need to be replaced. Do Not clear code without servicing the DPF(s) as further damage can occur to other exhaust Aftertreatment components.

Well, that is a good question. The ash clean request is due to the DPF maintenance that is monitored by the MCM, ACM. The truck can still perform a successful regen even though the ash request light is on.

Soot level low, runs regen perfectly without throwing any other codes. Engine working perfectly before derate. Filters were pretty good but they blew some compressed air through them anyway and got them back to about 93%. So I guess I have to have my ash accumulator reset... Yes?

The short answer is Yes. definitely not recommended, the DPF has reached the end of its service life and needs to be replaced with a factory DPF or baked. The factory now recommends to have the DPF (both) replaced instead of being baked. Driving with the DPF at its maximum will and can comprise the One Box.
