As a long-time Isaac enjoyer, I really love this video! Seeing a fresh blind playthrough in 2024 by someone who genuinely gets it is like finding a unicorn - even if you don't know anything about the mechanics, you clearly have that sense of curiosity and a willingness to learn that makes it a joy to watch, and so many gaming channels have tried getting into Isaac without that mindset, and it really shows. I've seen a bunch of other youtubers try to play this game, only to get frustrated or burnt out when they've barely even begun. So I really hope you do more of these and make it a series! I'd love to join you on this journey of yours as you uncover the game's many many many secrets and mechanics. Your love for the game is infectious, and I'm here for it!

Btw, on the topic of the item description mod, it's both a blessing and a curse, since without it you lose a ton of strategical depth to the game, but with it the mystery of the game goes down by a bit. The og developer himself said that in his opinion the biggest flaw of the game right now is lack of information about items, so he's considering adding something like external item descriptions to the game as an optional HUD, since the sheer amount of content grew like more than 10x times since the og game. In case you ever decide to use it, if I remember correctly, the mod can be customized to offer only some info about items.
@CaptainTrevino22 күн бұрын
I looooove roguelikes but hated Isaac because of this. Those early runs had zero strategy because every decision is completely blind. You're at a shop trying to decide between a piece of lint and scrap of paper and not only do you not know what they do but you don't even know if they're one time use, held, passive, etc? I love falling into traps or getting trolled but to me Isaac was like playing a dark level filled with blind jumps in MM.

it's very weird to see someone play this game and actually have to discover everything by themselves, i just take all the knowledge i have for granted since ive been playing it since release, never ever even thought about the fact that the game doesn't even tell you how to use consumables or active items, or that the pits aren't possible to fall into, or that blue flies and spiders are allies. im assuming this is a sentiment a lot of people watching this share with me also today is the 10th anniversary of this game, so this timing is great!

That jump practice portion was peak entertainment! I hope once Carl has played Isaac for a while, he'll go back to watching this video so that he, too, can witness all the stuff he missed or drew incorrect conclusions on. All of them are very understandable, of course. They make perfect sense for a new player experiencing the game with untainted eyes - but as the experienced player who is just a distant observer, unable to interact at all, they can be incredibly painful, as we're sitting there, powerless, praying that Carl will figure it out on its own without any hints.

I agree with your other comment here that the art style is... unfortunate, as I am of the same opinion (I dislike grimdark and disgusting visuals), but it does say something that despite the exterior doing its darnedest, I came to love the interior. Plus it doesn't hurt that the game provides such banger statements/thoughts as "Woo, I got cancer!".
