The first fish your Dad caught is called a Turbot (good eating). We'd catch a lot of them when I was a kid fishing in Huntington Beach Harbor.

You should try using ghost shrimp they work really great

When the fish goes into cover try releasing the ball and give the fish a minute or two to come out. Bass love cover.

I run 30lb braided with a 30lb Fluorocarbon leader for all inshore saltwater. Never had an issue with breakage.

For the lagoon and our southern california region, for small baits 11lb braid is all I need. 1 mile out on boat/kayak need more lb. All personal preference

10:00what braid line you using ? I use 8lb and 11lb PE braid line. For the lagoon and surf. 2 lines that I use 16lb. Its personal preference
