One of the things I really like about carlsen is how he successfully deviates from theory-no memory involved just pure creativity

I've read somewhere that the chess engines are sort of "de-tuned" in the openings to favor playing more established openings, rather than just letting them do whatever they want at the start of games. I wonder if Magnus has his hands on a "pure" engine and has been taking notes about how they would open games if you just let them go. What he's doing seems so crazy! But he's always been a sort of "poster boy" for the generation that has "learned to learn" from the engines. Maybe he's just been taking the next logical step!
@pulykamell
@pulykamell Жыл бұрын
Didn't we kind of figure that out with Alpha Zero? I mean, it wasn't given an opening book, and it pretty much settled on all the established openings. There certainly wasn't any weirdness like this from what I remember.

Carlsen knows that he is just way better sailing in uncharted waters, that is why he is choosing weird / unusual / even worse opening moves.He does not afraid to be worse ( +1 ) after 3-4 moves, but his advantage is that his opponent did not memorize 20-move opening line and has to find all the moves over the board ( or over the laptop screen in this case ) And quite probably he looked into 1.g3 h5 2.Nf3 h4 ?! in home, knows most of the traps and tricks there, but for opponent all this is brand new stuff .That is why after 20 moves he already has 1.30 time advantage on clock , which is huge in blitz game

He rattles and unsettles his opponents, throwing them off-balance and immediately out of scripted "opening theory." But as I commented a bit earlier, I did not see GM material in this particular opponent: Magnus made six initial moves with pawns and opened a battering ram alley in h with one pawn sacrifice. The so-called GM with white then makes 4 or 5 initial moves with his Knight (??) and, frosting on the cake, he castles kingside, smack into Magnus' h rook. Magnus is having fun and destroying the oppo, although he does lose from time to time against true GMs and Super GMs.

Amazing stuff. I just fear for the sanity of these people who play dozens of games every day, and can play several games simultaneously while blindfolded. Magnus, once while being interviewed, admitted he was actually going over one or two games in his head while he was talking to the interviewer about other stuff. The thought of being trapped in that world would terrify me.
