But please remember, while you’re here commenting about others peoples mistakes, the actual guys playing are making history. In top level competitive games, regardless of game type. The mental edge is real. Good players can still perform at their peak, but it takes SO MUCH MORE energy to do so. You are never at ease, it leads to mental fatigue / blunder much quicker than usual. Going against the GOAT, knowing the end game is hugely in MC’s favor would amplify this effect. MC & Garry both mentioned this edge, opponents would simplify and draw favorable positions. Opponents would be visually stressed when in obviously advantaged position. Hikaru said ad much playing against MC, whereas playing in blitz he does not feel this stress because he knows he’s level with, if not better than Mc. Props to Fabi for a great game though.

you don't think he didn't see the pawn could be taken, right? he was trying to win a tempo bringing his king over while white plays Rxh3-Rd3. At that point Fabi was playing for a draw. You see the hesitation between Kf7 and Kf6 on the last move? That was his last chance to save. He should have played Kf7 to leave the f6 square vacant for the queen so he could play Qf6+ after Re8. That was the decisive and the worst blunder. Because it's obvious white will play Re8 next. But he had so little time left.

I know nothing about chess, but can anyone explain why fabiano resigned at the end? Couldn't he have moved his queen away, or done something else?
@ksham.9 күн бұрын
Doesn't matter what he does. All valid moves leads to the Black Queen being lost. There's only ONE safe square for the Black Queen (a5), but then White promotes with d8=Q+. The promotion comes with check is the biggest problem. That means that the Black Queen would have to capture it, then White captures it back with the Rook, which means Black is down a Rook and the last White Pawn will promote next move and there's nothing Black can do about it.
