Lead-in with Haunting: There's always someone, haunting someone, haunting someone, I can't sleep easy, cause I'm afraid of dreaming And then the memory of the dream There's always someone, haunting someone, haunting someone Laura is the face in the misty night Footsteps that you hear down the hall The laugh that floats on a summer's night That you might never quite recall And you see Laura on a train that is passing through Those eyes how familiar they seem She gave your very first kiss to you That was Laura but she's only a dream She gave your very first kiss to you That was Laura But she's only a dream Yes she gave your very first kiss to you That was Laura, but she's only a dream A dream, a dream

@@deanronson6331 thank you so much I love Johnny and I will listen to it a song that you might enjoy if you have not heard it already is Ruby by Ray Charles simular to Laura a song about a beautiful but somewhat mysterious woman it's also connected to a movie Ruby Gentry the song at the end makes a bit of reference to Laura when the backround singers end the record by singing she's NOT a dream
@deanronson6331 Жыл бұрын
@@johnfulton4061 I'm familiar with "Ruby" and Ray's version of it. I'm a big fan of his, but that particular tune doesn't come close to "Laura" in my mind. One suggestion deserves another: Julie London, "Where Are You?"

@BernardProfitendieu Gene did not need to practice was smoking, sadly Gene started smokiing very early on in her career in an effort to deepen the the tone of her voice, it was eventually to bring about her death from Emphysema. By the time Gene made the movie Laura Gene had been smoking quite a number of years. Though I agree it does come across as a little strained and awkward looking, however, though Gene was known as 'one take Tierney, there were many retakes by La Shalle, photo/lighting.

It would've been perfect without the repetitious, out-of-place ending. Not a big Carly fan, mostly because of her nondescript repertoire, but she hit all the right notes until the final few repetitive bars.

I think David Raskin wrote the music in 1944 when the movie came out and Johnny Mercer (Days of Wine and Roses, Moon River etc etc) wrote the words several years later. I recently bought the movie on DVD and Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews, Clifton Webb, Vincent Price & Judith Anderson are all very good and Otto did a nice job of directing!

My name is Cale Guillory, and I am from Monroe, Louisiana (where I am still living), and I love Carly Simon’s music. Especially this song. I have watched this video so many times, and I have decided to watch it again, as I think I can come up with different lyrics to the tune of this song, based on the qualities of Hurricane Laura, who just came through yesterday.

@mjazzguitar A couple of weeks ago, I was watching Season 1 of Saturday Night Live, and Carly Simon was the only musical guest who didn't appear live. Instead, she filmed them ahead of time. They said it was because she wanted to watch herself on the show, but if you're right about the stage fright, that could explain it. Either way, it was a great performance. She always gives great performances.
@giandioro11 жыл бұрын
My take on it is that David Raskin wrote the instrumental song for the 1944 film, Laura, and that in the following year Johnny Mercer put lyrics to the music. The lyrics are based on the character Laura from the film.
