Never tire of listening to her divine voice. She and Leadbelly--changed our lives. Means still so much to anyone who has heard her--the struggle and celebration of what's real --is there and eternal. Thank you ODETTA!!!

I knew Odetta since the early 60's. We became close friends through some of the 70's. She was going to do a song of mine but the album fell through because of a bad record producer. We didn't care, we were still close. Then, as things happen, we drifted apart. Now it's so good to see and hear her on youtube. She was as classy off stage as she was on stage. One of those truly beautiful people.

Love this kinda jazzy feel here. I used to play the old time folkie version when I was younger. But some people really know how to put a song over to ya. Make ti real. Odetta was one of those people. No matter how she sang it or who she was singing with. This is great. Awesome. Thanks for posting. "Jen"

Soothing song with a surprising twist of humour. I didn't notice any humour in Bessie Smith's version of this song, but that might've just been me not being very observant. Odetta can sing.

Not everybody needs a bunch of musicians, back-up singers, background dancers, strobe lights, and a 4th of July pyrotechnics display to make music. Some folks just need heart, soul, and talent....and maybe a piano player.
