This is a clip from a roughly 20 minute video "Last Word: Odetta" from NY Times. The entire video (with much better resolution and audio quality than I was able to present here) is available at: www.nytimes.co...
Please, go watch it! It is such a beautifully done video, of a wonderful, amazing person.

She sings it with deeply felt emotions probably those she felt numerous times in her life. Her career spans the last century. She blends singing and speaking with such great affect.

"The song dates back to the era of slavery in the United States when it was common practice to sell children of slaves away from their parents." Wikipedia. This song also reminds me of the pain afflicted on Native American children who were separated from their parents... ODETTA IS AN ANGEL! Her voice touches my soul. Thank you for sharing!
