Carmageddon 2 was a true classic with boatloads of content, and with deformable models and damage physics years ahead of its time. Carmageddon 64 looks like an alpha demo that wouldn't even deserve to be on a magazine demo disc.

The series was not known for political correctness, especially the 2nd in the series. Everything was an innuendo or a leering tongue in cheek satire of current events that were relevant at the time. As I recall, the aircraft carrier in one level was named the S.S. Lewinsky.

There was a license simulator on PC back in the late 90s/early 2000s. It was really strict and didn’t let you have any fun with it, and the smallest imperfection in your driving made you start over each time. I forgot who made it, I think Sierra but I’m probably wrong.

Both games were great. I can hardly recognise it from the port. That thing is awful. James is even raging about some things which were actually fun features originally, like how the tracks are just a suggestion and not meant to be Mario kart. But that port is so awful, and he hasn't played the original so it's understandable that many features seem like bugs. It's actually on mobile and the port isn't half bad. Made commutes fun and nostalgic.

I mean...some of your complaints are the hall mark of Carmegeddon. They didn't "fix" these issues in the remake either. The "ambiguous" sense of direction and checkpoints not registering. My understanding was that winning the race by completing the checkpoints was not the intended way this game was meant to be played, instead it was supposed to be a demolishing derby. I remember the N64 version having Zombies and no blood, but I only ever played the PC version in my youth. Great game many hours lost to that!

does it mean that you consider that all carmageddons are bad games? TDR 2000 i can understand, even reincarnation can be judge heavily, but i wouldn't consider the others bad games (the pc's ones)

@@nidrisis7838 oh no I love Carmageddon I and II on PC. But the ports of the game to the N64 and I think GBC were atrocious. I did a montage of video clips of the orignal game a few years ago set to Hall of the Mountain King.
