I bought the 3DO after it was heavily discounted and it was honestly worth every penny just to be able to play the only arcade-perfect home version of SSF2T. My best friend and I both had arcade-quality SNES fighting sticks (sanwa sticks + buttons), and were able to find SNES to 3DO controller adapters, which worked flawlessly. It was the perfect setup for playing what was literally the perfect version of SSF2T. We spent HUNDREDS of hours playing that game on 3DO. No regrets. :)

I remember having dreams about how awesome the 3DO might be. However, I didn’t understand how economics works at that age. Companies that were late to the console race either had to pump tons of investment into R&D, not expect a huge rate of return or even accept being in the red for a while due to lack of economies of scale, or they were just awful. Panasonic did everything wrong. So did Atari, which had been out of the console war for way too long.

3DO Doom's music was universally praised. It used a live band instead of midi music, because apparently it was faster to digitize live band music than program a custom MIDI player for the Doom port. Hilariously, the band that played the heavy metal music for this demonic, violent game was actually the producer's band from his church.

"Plumbers don't wear ties" is a line that in my personal opinion bud stands out in the time of KZbin history :)

I find it crazy how in Drug Wars where you're shooting guys in the bar, no one is panicing and ducking for cover; they're all staring at you.

I think they just didn't close the bar. Those were normal patrons just like "What, are they filming something? Should I move? Gimme a Coors, Bob!"

I can’t believe he didn’t mention that the 3DO’s DOOM had the best soundtrack out of all of the ports and versions, performed by an actual band and recorded in a garage just for this game. Do yourself a favor, and look up the 3DO DOOM’s soundtrack, and compare it to the others. It’s actually great.

The 3DO had tons of controller converters. I had one for 2 SNES controllers and it was perfect. No daisy chain necessary and all the buttons worked as expected. So, there were peripherals, you just needed to know what to look for.
