First thing I have to say is my first choice for Carmen is Alicia Alonso. Her firely Latin personality and sharp beat got me in awe. Lopatkina or Kondaurva neither has that street swagger like her. But I chose Kondaurova over Lopatkina in Mariinsky. For me Lopatkina has not enough strength of foot to execute tight beat. She's behind the rythm so many times, though I only watched her in a premiere and never seen her again.

@DanzarePerSempre Sweet guy with class and solid technique. But the cast trapped me in awe is Kuznetsov/Jose & Smekalov/Tolero. Smekalov turned him into un homme fatal. Kuznetsov was slowly falling into hell, you could feel his disorientation every second on the stage. Believe me their portrayal was crazily intense!

I saw your link. Lopatkina was far better, edgy than I saw her in 2010 season. She was actually great a Carmen in 2007 but she completly lost the tight accentuation in 2010 she showed in your link. And she was far more passionate when she danced with Ivan or Ilya. With Danila and Evgeny she looked like more dead than Kondaurova here. And yes, Evanescence rocks!

Yes Marrinsky ballerinas will be challenged here with their hyper extension but I can't settle for less technique. So this Carmen will be a bit sophisticated and less street. Ideal Carmen shorter more powerful an actor that can dance very well (merde Baryshnikov !;P)

Korsuntsev is pretty good here. Lopatkina is far better, kondaurova is a bit sloppy, less musical, not responding to partners passion. Expression was limited.

Kondaurova might have packed extra pounds on her thighs or just the camera...she seems more curvy...
