I'm gonna be honest, as a kid I thought this game had kind of a fucked up creepy vibe at times. like when the villains would come to get you but you'd teleport just before they got you. and the music too. I do remember having fun laughing at the shit the agents would say while they were hooked up to the machine.

I'll never forget this one time I played this game with a friend and we decided to stop and listen to the captive agents' messed-up lines just for fun. When we got to Agent 12, her first line was "Have men-car stop to you" ("You have to stop Carmen"), and my friend joked that she had said "Have men's cars stop for you". Epic lulz ensued.

@@THEsyntheticFresh there is a labratory in the game that has a dude wrapped up on an examination chair and zapped if you watch long enough. the music can get chilling sometimes too, especially in the graveyard hideout

Oooh I loved this game when I was a kid! I got it out of a cereal box. That and Amazon Trail 3rd Edition, Clue, Monopoly, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and Boggle. Talk about nostalgic....

Terrified the hell out of me as a kid. In college my roommate and I figured out we had the same traumatic experience with the game (the CD Rom was a promotional attached to a lot of cereal boxes back in the day) and got so freaked out talking about it late at night that we had to go to McDonalds at like 2 in the morning to distract ourselves before we could sleep.

It takes a lot of effort, but it's possible to run this on a Mac OS X by simply emulating Mac OS 9. (Which is how I made this video!) Try downloading this: jamesfriend.com.au/hypercard/hypercard-ca520e219.sheepvm.zip And adding the ISO provided in the Devices panel.

Oh gosh! Ok! Well, I downloaded it and I'm just surprised it actually worked! The last SheepShaver I tried quit as soon as it was opened. But I'm not sure I know what you mean by "And adding the ISO provided in the Devices panel"? And When I click the download link for the game, it opens in Idle but also shuts down.

Man, thank you for finding this! And man, if only. There's another small comical remix thing at the end of the other video, though! And when I eventually upload the Math Detective intro and ending, same goes for that. So... if you combine all four together... maybe you get some big enough to be a Carmen Sandiego remix. You know. Either that or you just gave me a great idea and my last Carmen Sandiego themed video will have an honest-to-goodness remix on the end of it. ... you know!

Definitely remember getting this with a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch way back in the day. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind. The game was a bit spooky but all and all pretty satisfying everytime you freed one of the agents. Haha!

One often-overlooked fact about this game is that Carmen is no longer just a globetrotting thief anymore, but a straight-up KIDNAPPER. TBF, some of the thefts in other games DID strongly imply that someone was kidnapped in the process, like in one WITWICS case involving the literal theft of the entire city of Casablanca (and presumably everyone in it). But this was the first ever Carmen Sandiego game to straight up SHOW Carmen kidnapping someone as opposed to just implying it.

I used to have a Windows 95 PC back in the day. Got the demo version of this game for free out of a cereal box. Years later, I bought the full game off of Amazon, and have tried installing it on my Windows 10 PC. I couldn't get it to work, even after running it in compatibility mode. I don't know if I can just download it somewhere, or if I can find a way to make it work using the physical disc. Need some advice, please and thank you! Word Detective is one of my all-time favorite games!

I bought this game on computer disc recently, but it won't run on my computer because it doesn't have the program for it. What program do I need to make it run?

So, you need to either run it on Sheepshaver, running an old Mac OS, or run it on VirtualBox, running, like, Windows XP. jamesfriend.com.au/running-hypercard-stack-2014 Here's a place to download SheepShaver already set up. Then you would just make sure it can read your CD drive. Either that, or you could download my ISO & add that to the SheepShaver set-up in Preferences.
