[Fact] The VA of Acrobatic Silky, Kikuko Inoue, have a personal connection when recording the part where she running chasing her daughter that being taken away. 20 years ago where she, Kikuko Inoue, was on vacation with her daughter (6 yo) at a tropical resort. While playing in a large hotel pool, she briefly left her daughter unattended to retrieve something from their room, thinking it was safe because her daughter was just splashing around in the shallow part of the pool. On her way to the room, she realized the pool had areas where even adults couldn’t touch the bottom. In a moment of dread, she imagined her daughter accidentally moving into the deeper section and drwning while she was away. Overcome with fear, she sprinted back to the pool as fast as she could, her thoughts racing with anxiety and guilt over leaving her daughter alone. Although nothing tragic happened, the raw emotion and panic of that moment stayed with her vividly. When recording the scene, she drew on this memory to channel the overwhelming fear, desperation, and physical exhaustion of a mother terrified for her child. She remembered the sound of her own breath and heartbeat during that sprint 20 years ago and used it to guide her performance.

A few insights to clarify some things: - All Yokai have tragic backstories. It's part of the job, so to speak. If they didn't, they wouldn't be Yokai in the first place. "DanDaDan" is basically one of those stories that takes this reality head on. - 8:03 The men who took Silky's daughter were Yakuza. Apparently Silky was in debt with them (we don't know how, though), and that's why she was taking multiple jobs, including working as a prostitute. What makes it more tragic is that it's implied she took some of the money she was supposed to give to the Yakuza to pay for the dress. And despite what some media may show you, the Yakuza don't fuck around. They took her daughter as "compensation" and (be ready, the tragedy is about to get even worse. Skip to the next paragraph if you don't want your heart to be even more broken) the most probable thing they did to her was to essentially kill her to traffic her organs, which is something the Yakuza do in real life. - 8:29 The dance she does on the roof was to essentially end her own life. It is implied that she was originally a professional ballerina, but she had to give it up to raise her daughter. But she still uses ballet as a way to bond with her. However, once the Yakuza took her daughter, she knew she wouldn't see her ever again. So she has no reason to keep on living. Thus, she takes one final ballet dance... and jumps to her death with her last leap. In the anime they tone it down considerably, since suicide is a specially touchy subject in Japan, but it's much more clear in the manga, where they show her clearly jumping off the roof. In the anime, the roof edge is shown for only a few frames (so few, it's literally "blink and you'll miss it") to make it a bit more ambiguous. But that "thud" sound makes it clear if you know what's going on. - 9:16 Yeap, Silky was already dead at that point. Now, this requires a bit of cultural explanation: the reason why Aira can see her is because in Japanese Shintoism, children under the age of 7 are believed to be half-spirits. As in, their souls haven't evolved into fully human just yet. Thus, they have a stronger connection with the spiritual world, which in fiction is shown as the ability to see ghosts. And that's exactly what happens here: Aira, who is supposed to be 5 or 6 years old at this point, sees Silky's spirit believing it was her mum. Silky, who is an errant spirit at this point, gets her memories all jumbled out of this contact. Silky confuses Aira with her own daughter and that triggers her transformation into a full-blown Yokai. In case you are wondering, the aforementioned believe about children under 7 came about due to the ridiculously high infant death rate Japan used to have in ancient times. It was a way to give some solace to grieving parents, believing that their dead children would enter the afterlife and rest in peace by default. - 12:12 Indeed, both Aira and Momo got to see Silky's memories during the aura connection. That's why Momo was crying her eyes out and Aira knew how to tell her what she needed to hear to rest in peace, not to mention that they essentially filled each other's void, even if for just a moment. Okarun didn't get to see any of it, for obvious reasons, but our boy is emotionally intelligent enough to read the room. As for Turbo Granny, she didn't get to see it either, but considering her backstory, she likely had a pretty good idea of what it was like. She's seen so many young women with endings just as tragic as Silky's, if not even more so, that now she's completely jaded. And last, but definitely not least: don't worry, "DanDaDan" will go back to be a wholesome series next episode. Just... keep in mind that you will get a tearjerker every once in a while.

My husband and I actually think we figured out Silky's complete story solely from context clues. She's clearly a dancer, which you usually need to go to school for. School is expensive, so she'd probably need to take out a loan. If she was too young, it's possible a bank wouldn't give her a loan, so she had to turn to a shadier option: the Yakuza. She gets the loan, and gets into school for dance, but lo and behold, she ends up pregnant and has to drop out. The father likely either doesn't know, or didn't want anything to do with the baby. So now she has a loan to pay back and a baby to take care of - and her daughter is her world, gets her through all the hard times, and keeps her love of dance alive. But when she's short on a payment to the Yakuza, they take her daughter to settle the difference, and she loses the one thing worth living for. Absolutely brutal, and masterfully executed with barely any dialogue.

So after some investigation we can conclude that the flashback happened in 1989. The money is Series D 10,000 yen bills, which started production in 1984 and stopped production in 2004 - you can tell by the round empty space in the middle of the bill. The bills produced after that have an oval shape. Also, the only years during that period when October 25 fell on a Wednesday are 1989, 1995, and 2000. Additionally, Acro Silky uses some old fashioned words like "tsuppari" meaning "bad boy or girl", and "ottamage" meaning "surprised" - which were more common in the 80s than the 90s. So we can pretty safely say that Acro Silky's daughter was kidnapped on October 25, 1989. She was 5 years old, so she would have just turned 40 a month ago. Acro Silky had been wandering around as an aimless spirit until 10 years ago, when Aira mistakes her for Aira's mom. Another extra-heartbreak detail: When they have their curry dinner for Acro Silky's daughter's birthday, Acro Silky has less curry and her daughter has an extra-big serving.

@@Brown_Jesus53X It's not a big deal. The Yen thing is a big giveaway if you've handled more recent bills, because it's a really obvious difference. The vocab stuff from Acro Silky really just sounds like she came out of an 80s movie if you know a bit of Japanese.

Another perfectly crafted episode, with a few points worth mentioning: 1.From the money on the bedside table and the room's setup, we can infer that being a sex worker was one of her many jobs (this shows her willingness to do anything for her daughter). 2.From the comic, we learn that after waking up, she realized she had lost her daughter, which led her to jump off the building. 3.She actually became a wandering ghost for quite some time, having forgotten everything. Later, it was the touch of the pink-haired girl that brought back her memories, transforming her from an ordinary ghost into a vengeful spirit. Truly heartbreaking.
