If you look at the brief frame while he’s being pulled away, Carmine’s torso is already corroded away with his inner sternum/ribs exposed. It looks mostly acid induced, maybe his armor could have taken the physical attack of the crawly boys.

I’m so glad I was able to take part in the choice to choose if Clayton should live or die, because I chose for him to live and it came true! They did a funny joke if he had been chosen to be killed off, and it was hilarious. Hope the bacon was worth it, IFKYK

I love Clayton, but part of me wonders if it would have been better to see Ben survive 2 and fill Clayton's role in 3. As much as I adore Clayton, we didn't see him become a badass, he just shows up and is. His survival is cathartic and all, but would it have been better to see Ben be the carmine that survives AND break the family curse, starting as the rookie from 2 and ending as the survivor in 3? Dunno. Clayton's one of my favorites, but I feel like he was just slightly under-utilized in Gears 3, to where he's not quite as compelling as Benjamin was.
