this build is surprisingly educational and entertaining. one thing i always enjoy seeing it tips on how to do things different/better. like the cut out templates for mating the roll bars or getting a ute because it's an awesome work bench (justified purchase, Mrs said i could buy a bench but not another car.. well what identifies it as a car exactly anyway lol)

I would guess that the 3d scan gives them template, saving time measuring and test fitting for future builds.

tool technology has made things easier that's for sure, digital bevel boxes for example, they were "Star trek fantasy stuff" 20 years ago and now such a cheap handy tool. 2 questions, how do they weld the top of the cage against the roof? and how do they avoid cooking the headliner to a crisp?

They drop the cage down off the foot pads to weld the top

I love Holden ute's maybe one day I can buy a 25 yr old or older Holden and have shipped to the States..... the Holden ute is just cool I think and then maybe I could find a Holden sandman and ship it over that would be so cool....

Great video, but I have a question, Since the VS Ute will be used for drag racing, why wasn't the HVAC system, radio & other interior trims haven't been taken out? Do you really need a roof liner, visors & interior light? Every weight saved means better numbers on the drag run.

Pipe work is easy these days.When I was young had to pack sand into pipe to bend small pipe was easy.Big tube had to make mandrels on dogging block still sand in tubes and heaps of heat

Dumb question But see how the american drifty boys gut the doors, and bend the side intrusion bars into the door... to give more space for the driver. Can that be done to meet australian drag racing rules? Just figured you could gut the lower half of the door, and then you'd have a heap more space in an already tight cabin Also, where's the pro spec section through the back window into the tub/tray ? hahaha

Do you have any secret way to get that cage engineered? Would love to build a drag and drive car but that's one of the things that can't be engineered

In WA you can't get a six point cage engineered, as if you where in an accident and your head is anywhere near the front bars there's a good chance you would split your head open as your not wearing a helmet. That was the law a few years back

@rpmfabrication801 many years ago they changed the laws here too, can't have anything forward of the driver, have had friends inquire about getting it engineered and they were told no, looking forward to seeing how they do it as they said they were getting everything engineered, I looked at the rules and can't find anything specific, I did find that door bars are allowed but can't be above any part of the bolster....

Nice looking cage, but I have never understood why the side bars need to be removable. It's not like they are so intrusive that you couldn't live with them in there every day, but hey what does common sense have to do with compliance with the rules. Are you planning on tying the cabin cage to the rear? How fast of a chassis are we building here?

This cage will be good to 8.0, the removable bars are to make it easier for street driving

@@STREETMACHINETV OK thought you might be looking for something in the low 8 range. Wasn't sure if you were looking to dip into the 7's. Traction is always going to be a bit of an issue for a ute, so 8's is a sensible target.

@@chuxshed587 there's more to going fast than just hp. The cage that has just gone in won't aid quick times, it is mostly for driver safety. Takes a well setup chassis to get into the 7's. You're at a disadvantage with a ute to start with the lack of weight on the rear. There is a lot of chassis work yet to be done, so until it takes place it's anyone's guess whether 7's are possible. There there is the issue of whether the track will allow you to do 7's.
