I used to make fun of these until the day my mate picked up one of these and took me for a drive. One owner, 175,000km and garaged all its life. Man they are so spacious and comfortable, suspension soaks up the bumps and you can stretch your legs which is ideal if you're taller. It got into a crash and was written off, it wasn't even my car and im still sad thinking about it. Definitely an Australian classic. Great video.

My first job was working for John at DEER PARK MOTORS, Mechanical basic work, tyres, wheel bearings ,tunes oil changes etc, when i was only 15 as well. :) the trick with install of wheel bearings is not to use a punch to tap them in, you use the old bearing caps to tap the new ones in. Just one slip of a centerpuch or wrong tool on the cap and you have nothing but noise and then you have to do the job all over again and most people don't buy the tools required just for replacing wheel bearings / caps ? Especially modern cars with ABS ECS etc etc. 🏎👌✌👍😊🙌 Scotty mate when doing the work on the bearings you have to have the solid table so you can tell when its metal to metal noise as well, when putting the bearing cups in, using the old cups is just as good when installing the new ones. :)

I'd still be pumped to see a turbo installation on the Barina. I don't know why I am so hooked on the Barina, because I've never seen one before, but I'd be really interested in seeing you run it at the strip with the bigger engine standard, and then installing a properly designed turbo kit and running it again at the strip to see how much it's picked up. Loving this build so much, i could bore you stupid with all the VNs ive owned and still own currently the collection is around 8, VN Calais 355 project, A VN V6 skid car with twin throttles done as a atlas grey SS replica, a VN LE, VN Berlina Formula and a few VN parts cars on the farm. About 20k if you re do everything if going blown 15 for the turbo set up properly I did the supercharged option cost 20 all up then wanted more power with out spending 10g on a whipple charger so I went turbocharged and am between 450 and 500 rwk and is notorious for killing gearboxes tho
@vlt8734 жыл бұрын
It all depends on how much you can do yourself. The L67 is pretty tough to start with, so as long as it's in good condition to start with you'll get away with some basic maintenance. Throw on some mls gaskets and arp head studs if you can with a basic head service should be $1.5k all up. Going turbo from the get go is the cheaper and will make more power. If you can fab your own intake adaptor in place of the blower or use an ecotec intake with minor mods you'll save lots of coin. $200 You should be able to do a fuel system with 2 pumps, surge tank, hoses, injectors and adjustable reg for around $1.5k. Less if you can buy good second hand injectors. You should be able to fab log manifolds, dump pipes, exhaust and mufflers for about $2k finished. I'd go with a BA-BF Barra spec Garrett GT3582R either rebuilt or good condition 2nd hand (with modded wastegate flap), yes it's a boring choice but it is perfectly sized, runs the numbers, is cheap and far simpler to fab the manifolds and dump due to the internal gate. Expect to pay $600-$1500 depending on condition. Intercooler and piping 1k by the time you buy joiners and clamps etc. Ecu choice comes down to budget, you could buy a second hand ecu which does the job for a few hundred and wire it yourself. Or go the plug and play option for more like $2k. Another $1k tuning. The gearbox and converter is where all the money will go, probably $4-$5k there. Diffs are strong already but factor a couple of grand for new harrop lsd including fitting if you aren't confident with diy.

Oh man... Really has been a while since V6-Vengeance hasn't it? Sure as hell making ME feel old! I actually had a 'subscription' to STREET COMMODORES back in the day, pretty much just to make sure I never missed anything on the progress of that project! Heck, I'd go so far as to say that a great deal of my interest in 'aftermarket modification and performance' was motivated by that magazine and V6 Vengeance (admittedly along-side the first 'The Fast and the Furious' movie). Anyway, you can rest assured that I'll be following this build just as closely! These days I have "Baby", my series 2 VX Berlina to mess around with. She'll only ever be a "Daily", but I still have plenty of plans all the same. Performance wise, that means a full NA rebuild of the Ecotech with a bunch of extra bits culminating in a 'mild' (stage 1) cam overhaul. I'll only be able to so much myself, with limited tools and no 'workshop space' (beyond the driveway of my flat), but I definitely plan to 'get my hands dirty' and do what I *can* do myself. And who knows, once things start opening up again, maybe I'll see you at Calder, or far more likely since I'm in Bendigo - Heathcote! ~JD
