Carnage - Is Our V8 Lexcen The Quickest Streetcar We've Ever Built?

We've built some pretty quick cars, but most of them have to be towed to the track, but not the Lexcen. We drove it up to Heathcote, ran some solid numbers and then drove it home. All on pure street rubber. What an amazing sleeper!

Hey Scotty, Dash Mat Solution, Get a couple of twist ties from some cables or something and loop through the defrost vent holes in the dash to the mat. You can't really see them, the mat dosen't move and you don't have to use sticky crap that melts after a few hot days :)

Some adhesive-backed velcro strips stitched to the dashmat and glued to the dashboard will hold it steady.

I rate the nankang nsr's, I have them on my corona 235/60/15's and std suspension just cheap 3way adjustable shocks and got a 9.8 @137 with a 1.50 60ft couldn't give it more off the t-brake tho but not bad for a cheap tyres and there was no spray down at heathcote was at the hardass event so no prep. 👌👌

Hole in the wastgate line probably meant that you were running unknown amount of boost on the 1st run hence the et, also explains why it blew the reference line off the t piece As it would have been running more boost it probably leaned out or had too much timing and cracked a ringlang giving you the cho cho effect from the catch can Fixing the boost line and the likley damage from the 1st run would explain the lower et on the higher bost setting run

It's possible that happened, but I think if it had been running all the boost the car would have never hooked up. The boost line had a small split on the outside of the hose but it didn't look like it was all the way through. Trouble is it didn't datalog the first run (not sure why) so I have no idea what boost it ran. On the second full run we had full data, and it just topped out at 21psi on the 20psi setting, but the intake temp was too high from start to finish, so it was pulling timing during the run. It also chirped the tyres harder on the 1st/2nd shift much harder on the second run. So I think the first run was at lower boost. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I just checked the catalog again. By the end of the second run it was pulling 6 degrees of timing due to the high intake temp. The first run we started off cold, so it never go to the point of pulling timing. So I think the performance difference was mostly timing related, but your points are well reasoned.

Why would it over fuel? The haltech measures air mass and pressure. And if the line to the wastegate is off, won't it go full boost? Or is it plumbed in with both top and bottom port?

I’m surprised the motor lived at all hitting boost over and over again with the map sensor disconnected, thing would have been lean on NA timing. Poor bloody motor. We did a 10.6 at 137 in a sedan version of this with 490rwhp. So should have plenty left in it once it’s sorted.

It wouldn't have actually made boost because it's the same line as the blow off valve, so it would have blown that open any time it made boost. The fuel pressure regulator is on a separate line, so it would have upped the fuel pressure if it saw any extra intake pressure. I'll recheck the A/F on the datalog, but I think we're good.

@@STREETMACHINETV the blow off valve with a minimum of 10psi of base spring? Was definitely making boost. Could hear the gate opening haha. And the ecu’s fuel and timing table would have been running at the atmospheric line. Which would have been lean and high on timing for actual boost pressure. The fuel pressure reg adding 7psi isn’t going to account for the fact it wanted another 30% of injector duty it didn’t have. Some leanout safety in the ecu might be a good way to go in the future :) hopefully the motor isn’t too badly hurt.

I would really love for you to try the water/meths injection, your IAT's will be down to ambient temperature. As you're going to weld a boss on the intake pipe for the IAT sensor, why don't you weld another one for a water/meths nozzle, just after the intercooler, you wont be disappointed.

Like the start of a head gasket or valve spring / fractured rocker. Sorry I can't be more specific, it is just a gut feeling. I am wondering if excessive use of the antilag on the start has caused it to over pressure something and caused an issue.

@@STREETMACHINETV possibly, as I say sometimes you just have a gut feeling you can't say exactly what it is your hearing, but your brain is picking up on something on a subconscious level. Be interested to see what the results of the compression test / leak down are. Oh I completely forgot about the blow by... Possible fouled plugs causing some roughness? Hoping it is not bent rods causing a bad seal. Anyway that is complete speculation, wont know until you can do some real checking.

Guys, Scotty's great, your videos are still (mostly) entertaining, but 4 ad breaks in a 19 minutes video is taking the piss. You need to do much better or I (and maybe others) will stop watching. Two ads (in one break) at the start and, if you must, one break of two ads in the middle is more than enough for such a short video. This is unwatchable.

@tobysemler we don't specify any of that usually, it's all done automatically. But we can move and delete some if needed, we usually don't touch that stuff. I went and had a look and deleted some, so it should be better now. It'll be interesting to see what that does. Ultimately though, nothing comes for free, sitting through a couple ads is a small price for entertainment. The only other way we could do it would be through a subscription model where everyone pays us $5/month for exclusive content.
