Hey Scotty, Once you put the paint stripper on, cover it with a sheet of plastic. It will stop it becoming dry and make it work 10 times better.

I'd argue thats more an old school trick, the modern gel strippers just need the panel to be cool and out of direct sunlight. I did both and apart from the mess there wasnt any real difference where 20 years ago there was a big difference. Formula's change as they ban or remove the "Dangerous" chemicals and in some cases they've actually improved

Well done scotty, there is some HD version of the paint stripper products, just paint on with a brush and bang after about 20 minutes you can just hose it all off, or just use a wet towel and it should come straight off, but also when using this stuff you have to have a mask on, due to the old paint which would be lead based? The plastic over the top is an excellent idea also puting some deep scratches the paint with some coarse sand paper before applying the stripper will really help it get under the paint, Goodluck with the rest of the project,

Scotty, Lay a thick coat of the brush on stuff and put a layer of glad wrap over the top of the area to keep the fumes from escaping. It works way better

Hey scotty , instead of using a paint scraper to remove the paint when paint stripping a car use some coarse stainless steel pot srubbers , they work much better than the scapper your using and they don't mark the body panels , they also negate the need to use a spaghetti wheel on the grinder. If your a cheap skate like me just leave the used scrubbers to dry then simply rub them between your hands to remove old paint stripper and paint, it falls streight out and there good to go again . You won't regret trying this as its a much easier way to do a pretty stinky job

Gotta love the Longroof, Not..... :-) And this Scotty is why I dont fuss about paint, Rust sure, Mechanical Yup but with all the different layers and types of paint you have to undo to get back to bare metal its the angry twisted knot wire cup brush on the $35 grinder or nothing. I did use the Brush on stripper on an alloy skin boot (Trunk) lid on an SLC im playing with and gladwrapped the thing to let it soak n react and it took 2 applications and then light sanding to finish the job but again it was a tough job with car yard 2k over touch up spray layers over the original 1972 factory paint and red lead with all the spray boggy goodness in-between.

Scuff up the paint with some 24 or 36 grit before application and it will bite much better. 1st year of my apprenticeship was on stripper duty, I had it down to a fine art!

The National Lampoon Vacation reference gets you all the stars. About the stripper, I'd worry the aerosol would get vapor into your lungs. And about stripper, it is an option, but be absolutely certain to get to bare metal if you use it - like you did - otherwise the stripper can hide in the remaining paint and cause much damage to your new paint later. Also, strippers - when you sand it off, your making the stripper into an aerosol... and of that dust on your other cars will reconstitute briefly with water and damage paint... sorry, not much a fan of strippers, they come with many seen and unseen issues.

Good to see the heavy rubber gloves. I've found normal disposable gloves have limited effect. Nitrile being the worst for this stuff. You can feel your hands stinging within about a minute with nitrile.

Nar bud a real sand blaster contactor . A real system like dustless blasting , ABSS or clemco and so on can do a whole car in and out in 5 to 6 hours to bear white steel look up my business TSPMediaBlasting . Not cheap cheap but save you 3 to 4 weeks of hell .
