Agree with you Scotty, these American/ Aussie 90’s engines are a mixed bag when it comes to bolt sizes. Pulled down quite a few Fords and Holdens. The Fords seemed to have flipped earlier when the EA came out to metric, but the Commodes having a stronger tie to the US used everything.

Funny how some metric/imperial are spot on... 7/16:11mm,9/16:14mm,3/4:19mm... Not to say I use the wrong ones ;) In the States it was hard to find metric tools in the '60's until imports took hold. Dealer shops usually had Hazet brand, very good German made stuff (and expensive). Kind of like AN fittings and hose, -4 is 4/16(1/4),-8 is 8/16(1/2), etc.

You can use the na heads and get the injector bosses drilled . All the heads are the same but the l67 gets the injector bosses drilled out . They are all cast the same . Keep the other engine and recon that on the side to replace the one you just got . Hot the hell out of it and turbo that engine for nearly 1000hp . Look up corn fed boost yt page . Hes got a stonking l67 in his vt with a t56 6 speed in it . Bring on the mang . Thats a vs series engine because the balance shaft is a straight one and not an offset shaft like the rest . Piss the shaft off and go double row chain . Put a stroker kit in it also . Its all pretty cheap to do .

I'm afraid I don't quite get what you're trying to achieve. You're having the heads done, changing cam, lifters, timing chain set up (I get that, it let you down). The point is that you're spending money, in the right areas, except you're leaving the last couple of pieces of the puzzle in the rings and bearings. They're serviceable items, and replacing them also allows you to check the crank, rods and pistons, if they're fine, use them again, if they're not, you found them before they let go at 5000rpm.
