I've done numerous tests on mains bolts before and an increase of 10Nm reduces the bearing clearance by an average of 0.010mm from top to bottom. Side clearances didn't change much. The main issue with using a torque setting is the error caused by friction in the threads and under the head of the bolt, this is why ARP recommends using a specific lube and strain gauge to get the correct tensile clamp force. And yes, it is highly recommended to resize the bores if using "non-OEM standard" bolts due to the changes in sizes as mentioned.

Scotty, if you have a lathe just linish it yourself and plastigauge you’re clearances on assembly. And while the rods are out at a minimum you may as well give it a hand hone and throw some new rings in it. At least you’ll have more of a chance at having somewhat even cylinder pressures. Sorry Scotty, but I told you so !! I love the way you explained project creep. It happens to all of us. We need you, Scotty, to lead the way as a beacon of sensible light and just bodge the whole thing in the garage! Prove to us that it can be done and our wallet can stay safe and happy in our pockets. 240 ksi bolts sound pretty impressive, but they hold bridges up with 150 ksi bolts and I've seen a lot of broken rods but not many loosened big end bolts that caused them. At the end of the day, I trust SAE over ARP and believe that 150 ksi is plenty to keep the big end closed up. Plus, unless you're torquing them up to about 100-150 Nm, it's hard to take advantage of that tensile strengh. Just by the by, shear strength is the side-on force they can take before being ripped in half - more applicable to a gudgeon pin than any engine bolt. Keep the simple stuff simple, save brain space, and decrease your cognitive load to reduce mistakes. Example: could just number the big end caps 1-6 from the front to the back.
