To push the project along faster we outsourced the turbo and intercooler piping. Ben at Top G Fabrications did a killer job with the turbo piping.

Factory intake manifold is beautiful! Matches the rest of the V8 perfectly. Glad you ditched the LS intake. I wonder if the factory manifold would benefit from a nice port job though if it’s a bottleneck in the system.

Should go to vs v6 thermofan...can trim shroud down for clearance to get arms into engine bay. Also two speeds instead of one that vn-vr thermofan. Th400 will open up alot more options later on when turn it up.

How's the fan shroud clearance? Also you now have an RB30 VL spec radiator? Anybody notice the stock L67 in the background next to MX-5?

Nice fabrication... Here's hoping the radiator pipes were purge welded tho 🧐 (noticed the exhaust wasn't, that's not a huge thing, but the water pipes should be for longevity)

Make sure the expansion joint doesnt have an internal flexible gause. Itll just melt and roll up and block the cross over. Looking good 👍

Such a fun idea of a conversion. Saddest part is if this wasn't made for a show, you could get just as good results with an ls1 swap or a built 304. But, for you poor youtubers, you always have to do the much harder and cooler thing for your views. For what it's worth, I think this is a heaps cooler thing than the trolvo. I really hope it's as successful as you guys need it to be. The pipe work is gorgeous

The Volvo project from my view was more of a middle finger to everyone in that here is what you can do if you want to make everyone else notice what can done if you find a way to do it and don't care about what others think. Just my view. Most other projects are let's do the standard thing, the Volvo? F it lets go all out on running gear but keep the rest as bodgy as possible, this is where the original Mazda MX5 build failed, no one cares about a twin turbo GM pushrod V8, but put in. A Falcon taxi engine it and people cared about it right away.

The 1uz is so much more efficient than a ls or 304. Is built stronger from factory and will handle the boost so much better stock. No one cares about LS swaps anymore, even a K swap would be more exciting

There won't be much flex with the mounts we have, and the boost clamps allow some deflection

you might want to also upgrade the rear diff:1. Was that a metallic green Torana in the background?

We will, we've been waiting until we decided on the transmission because that makes an impact on the rear gear

Yeah the VR/VS rear diff were not good at all with live axle suspension as by then GMH were doing IRS for the sedans and the wagons were actually downgraded from the VN/VP era which were pretty much the same for sedan and wagon V8 but obviously the Lexcen used the V6 running gear. You can probably use the Borg Warner 'Hydratrak" LSD diff from the Falcon Ute (of that era) if you can find one and the the diff ratio should be 3.27:1 ratio which is the sweet spot for acceleration and top end speed. So far so good with this project build, once done drive it past Toyota HQ and let it rip.

​@351tgv they are exactly the same diff vl turbo, vl v8, vn-vs v6, vn-vs v8, all solid axle hsv, ford eb-au 6 and v8,, they are all the same diff.... all it might need is a true trac and could swap to 3.45 gears Unless the diff is locked/spooled the 28 spline axles will handle alot...

Ok I thought GMH changed them from VR onwards as they went to all IRS set up for the V8 sedan versions and the Lexcen got the bog standard V6 running gear (pushrod V6 with the electricnoic 460L trans and the standard diff). I do know the Falcon Ute for the Borg Warner Hydratrack LSD diff as did the Falcon wagon frommthay era with the V8 engine.

Actually, speaking of Transmissions... Will the stock auto gearbox behind the L-36 ectotech handle a mild NA build ('stage 1 cam kit max' levels)? Anything obvious I should do to strengthen it up? (Or recomendations for easy swaps should you recomend that route?)

Depends on the power you're aiming for. Our Turbo 700 has an aftermarket valve body but the rest is all stock and handles 300rwhp or thereabouts

@@STREETMACHINETV - I was aiming for the 200-250rrkw range, so that sounds pretty close to spot on! Thanks! I'll have to look into local shops that might be able to do the 'valve body' work... If no one else, the Rod Shop could probably do it.

Turbo taxi and project bluebird are more in my real-world affordability range. These builds with huge money 'to just get it running' are irrelevant for me. I feel like there needs to be a share between budget builds and bigger dollar examples. I'd be keen to see a budget burnout car made from wrecker parts, standard powertrain components modified where needed (weld it, grind it) and that will be far more relevant to most. Love you, Scotty and team, I look forward to managing from here on. Lol
