Whilst Ross clearly has an abundance of expertise on the issues of democratisation and foreign policy. I’m still pretty skeptical of his anarchist posturing, but he is absolutely right when he says that Catalan nationalism is a “bourgeois” project. That is exactly what it is and it is its critical flaw.

Catalan nationalism is generally very bourgeois, yes. However not all catalans who support the creation of a new catalan country are nationalists. Most of us just believe in the sostainability and convenience of having the power closer to the people. But either a nationalist or not, the biggest motivation amongst all of us is to liberate as much people as possible from the opressive spanish regime, which, in different ways has always sustained its artificial identity by repressing most of the peoples, cultures and languages it has had under its control.

His assumption on greek anarchists is totally wrong. These groups were empowered by the left goverment of siriza and they were acting with immunity. But the common people never liked them. Their actions was one of the reasons (not major one) that the leftist goverment suffered a crushing defeat in the elections of July 2019. Since the right wing party formed a new goverment they practically dissapeard. In my neigborhood they occupied a deserted home in 2016 and started spreading their ideology. One week after the defeat of siriza, police forced them out. I did not see not even one of my neighbors asiding with them. Instead all they neigbors i saw thet day were applaussing the police.

01:00 Mr Ross states that the East Ukrainian separatists movement is not 'legitimate' because of Russian involvement and the "violent way it has been pursued". However, Rojava is a good example, even though the Syrian "Civil" War has always been a thoroughly violent project of the Western powers and the Kurds have been armed and supported by the US. This seems to me like Good separatists aligned with the the Empire's geo-political objectives, and Bad separatists because Russia. It only takes a cursory look at the history and current politics of Ukraine to see how the Donbass Region was included into Ukraine in the 1920s and Crimea in 1954 by Soviet dictate. And big surprise the Yanukovych government, ousted in the 2014 revolution/coup with western support, had its power base in the predominantly Russian speaking East, which democratically, by referendum, chose to separate after the massacres of anti-maidanists by the newly empowered neo-nazi groups.

Carne Ross is still a professional liar doing the bidding of UK and Western goverments. He is helping sell the lie that "Assad and his sectarianism has unleashed more reactionary sectarianism in Syria" and he supports Kurdish separatists there even though much of the Kurds and much of Syria want Assad in power to conserve the secular non-sectarian government he leads. Carne Ross also is part of the biggest humanitarian scandal that should rock everyone to the core which is the White Helmets a bunch of Islamists in humanitarian's clothing calling for a no fly zone and funded by the UK,Qatar,Turkey,Saudi Arabia and the US. Vanessa Beeley in her explosive investigation for Mint Press News and other outlets incriminated him in her investigation. so why Real Media and other left leaning outlets and folks are giving him a platform or posting his BS on facebook, twitter and so fourth is beyond me given what you just said and Vanessa Beeley's exposure of the White Helmets in which he's part of that latest weapons of mass deception.

yeah its mind baffling the left and media critics want to associate themselves with Carne Ross, I know he looked good in John Pilger's documentary the War you Don't See but my God he's still is being an advocate for Western power and doing colonial divide and rule tactics. But this is because so much of the anti-war/anti-imperialist and left audience belive everything Human Rights Watch, Amnesty, and the Qatari funded Al Jazeera say about 'official enemies/demons' while occasionally slamming Western powers, and since really jumping the shark on Ukraine, Venezuela, throwing WikiLeaks under the bus, and supporting R2P in Syria the anti-war left and their media like Democracy Now, The Intercept, Mother Jones, Vice, and Jacobin have failed horrendously on Syria and the Carne Rosses of the world are helping in this weapons of mass deception even though if Assad is overthrown Syria will be broken up possibly like Yugoslavia or worse it'll just become a failed state run by rival Islamists and looted left, right and center like Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.

I can't agree more. orchestrated and smart mass-deception, although a lot of deception is being done unwillingly, due to lack of knowledge. Most people will believe everything that is labelled "left", thinking they got the point, but every source - mainstream or alternative / left is so biased and it feels like very few are trying to get a bigger picture. Too many sources / mediums are also riding the wave of hype for the views / reads and feed whatever information they have at their disposal. Quite a mess....

yeah I completely agree with you, John Pilger was right when he said propaganda is even more hard to decipher and its more frustrating because so much of the left/anti-war/imperialist movement they can't go beyond "the root of evil is a huge right-wing press" or "the root of all evil is the corporate press or state press like the BBC or ABC Australia", with Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela, the witch hunt against WikiLeaks and the attacks on RT, Telesur or Press TV which I recognize have its limits, some red flags, and I personally think we need a media independent of insince wealthy donors like Patrick Lannon, Pierre Omydiar, George Soros, Ford or Park Foundation, as well as a media not under any state control, be it Qatar or Russia or America, or France or Canada but that being said its stunning that those who we regard as well informed will dismiss anything from RT or Press or Telesur but if it comes from Democracy Now, Intercept, Human Rights Watch or Amnesty or Al Jazeera all of a sudden it doesn't matter whose funding them, if strings or attached or the fact they are lying to and distorting what's happening whereas RT, Press or Telesur they actually on a lot of critical issues, certainly if we take the example of just Syria alone they are pushing back against propaganda and yet we've come to accept we no longer want to defend social left movements in Latin America like Venezuela under brutal attack from the powers to be, and anything from Russia even though much of the journalists have a track record of being sincerely anti-war or Press TV that we can't trust them and will allow them to be harassed and intimidated but Al Jazeera and so fourth we will defend and not call them out or DN! or intercept on their bullshit. its stunning!
