I think flute students can learn one basic principle of etiquette from this video. At 5:27 you can see her body language change and her wanting to play again to eagerly show her teacher she can do better. This is a natural thing amongst students but its wiser and more respectful to have a neutral position and body language, respectfully and carefully listen to the teacher and then only when directed started to play again.

@bb986185 жыл бұрын
Its pure economics. Try to reach as much tone with as few air as possible. You can practise that by playing long or slow passages in every key. Starting from mid register and work yourself up and down to the extremes. Try to play the passage as slowly as possible, so you are still able to play it completely without breathing and try to improve your sound. You do that a while and you will see, that it becomes easier to play the whole phrase with good sound.

@fluteteatime3 жыл бұрын
if you just "play" the notes of the piece slowly, it is fairly easy for intermediate students, and somewhat challenging for beginners but they can also do it after some practice. now, if you want to "perform" the piece well with all due respect to the cultural and musical background of the piece.... many famous flutists have published their own performance of this piece, so that gives you an idea of what this piece means to many flutists...

Actually, to say it's not in the same key is half correct and half incorrect. Baroque Flutes play at a different tuning frequency. Considering to today's pitch requirements, the Baroque pitch is low. The piece is in the same key, it's all in the difference of pitch of Baroque and Modern-day pitches. Her tempo was "meh" at best and I think the problem with a lot of young flutists is they don't listen to enough recordings and truly analyze the music. I like my students to listen and be aware of the musical style and structure of the notation. She did have a very nice, fluffy, not overly vibrato-filled tone.

@isabelleelena62935 жыл бұрын
PlayCalialy She’s not gasping; she is just getting as much air as possible in as little time as possible. I also want to point out that flutes require more air than most instruments, and the higher notes notes also require more air. Also, the smaller the room, the louder the sound. Meaning that she needs to play that loud for performances which are probably in much bigger rooms. This would be my best guess.

"From the beginning we have spoken of the special Viennese qualities, of the way music is made here. The way we make music here is not only a technical ability, but also something that has a lot to do with the soul. The soul does not let itself be separated from the cultural roots that we have here in central Europe. And it also doesn’t allow itself to be separated from gender." "So if one thinks that the world should function by quota regulations, then it is naturally irritating that we are a group of white skinned male musicians, that perform exclusively the music of white skinned male composers. It is a racist and sexist irritation. I believe one must put it that way. If one establishes superficial egalitarianism, one will lose something very significant. Therefore, I am convinced that it is worth while to accept this racist and sexist irritation, because something produced by a superficial understanding of human rights would not have the same standards."
@cherylrajewski33905 жыл бұрын
As both a cellist and a flutist I find the 2nd movement tempo too fast, it sounds frantic and out of control. It's not a race. On the cello we have the advantage of bouncing our bow and getting a nice light effect with good resonance. On the flute the note is clipped shorter without much resonance. To compensate you have to have some air between some of the notes where you can to give it that light soft feeling and not come across as a run away train.
@volldillo4 жыл бұрын
Maybe you don't understand the Corrente or Courante: As maestro Flury explained here, the word Corrente means "running fast", so it really is like a race, indeed! That should be its character. Within a Baroque Suite, the Corrente is one of the fastest pieces at all.

Matia Sisler He has 20 minutes with a student to give them the most accurate and helpful advice that he can before the next student’s turn. These students are highly capable musicians, and can (hopefully) understand and ingest all of these ideas and concepts as quickly as he describes them. I think the reason for the tempo of the teaching is to give the student as much feedback as possible before their time is up. Or maybe it’s ADHD, I don’t know.
