This Flute Partita in A minor, performed by Marten Root for All of Bach, is Bach’s only known work for flute solo. The piece consists of four stylised dances. The Allemande is directly reminiscent of the cello suites and violin partitas, so this piece probably originated in the same period, namely Bach’s years at the court in Köthen.
Recorded for the project All of Bach on November 28th 2015 at the Oude Dorpskerk, Bunnik. If you want to help us complete All of Bach, please subscribe to our channel bit.ly/2vhCeFB and consider donating bit.ly/2uZuMj5.

Maestro Root, hartelijk dank voor je geweldige uitvoeringen waar we dankzij het internet van kunnen genieten en dit nog meer dan in een concertzaal omdat we de precieze stand van de mond kunnen volgen en onszelf kunnen corrigeren. Wow! His Sarabande takes my breath away. So sensitive! And his ornamentation in the repeat, even though complex, fits smoothly into the piece seamlessly, as if it were written that way. I love the mellow sound of the instrument. As a bonus, he has the body language to match his sensitive dynamics. This is my new role model for playing that piece.

Incredible - each note has presence, and the performance as a whole has a structure and flow. I long for the day I can explain and think through this more intelligently and fluently, but for now I am content with being able to identify basic things and, most importantly, listening in enjoyment. Also, I learn a lot from the comments on these videos, with regards to history, performance, and theory behind the music of Bach, which is a wonderful thing in itself.

It bothers me. It’s the the thing you work on, so the music can sing and not sound like a beat box, which admittedly has its own charms. Yes, slamming keys down is very disruptive to the illusion of legato. The other thing that’s very difficult on flute is not popping the keys open. So the tone is always matching the ones next to it.

all semi-serious flutists know this piece by memory - it's arguably one of the most important pieces for a flutist nowadays to know, and everyone learns it in university if they hadn't already learned it before

amazing that can play all those chromatic with cross-fingerings so in tune, without the benefit of side keys.

If you’re not Brazilian and you’re here, just go search for a song 1.7 billion YT song called “BumBum TanTan” It’s a Brazilian-Funk song, and all time most-viewed Brazilian VIDEO on YT, with 1.7 Billions The point? You’ll see that he used the same notes progression, even the beginning of this Partita,Which shows how great Bach was, influencing Pop songs even today PS: I’m not criticizing the MC Fioti, an ex-poor guy from favela who studied a little bit of music and made the Hit, I actually think he was pretty creative, and through Bach, he could leave poverty and give a Royalty life to his family. Although makes sense that he made 0 good songs after that one.

Incredible! If only people understood how much hard work it takes to play something like this. Congratulations to Mr. Root on his performance and I hope I can play the Traverso as good as him in the future! Edit: Also the high A of the Allemande was stunning!

You shocked the Dickens out of me by taking the repeat in the Allemande before the cadenza (not as copied), so naturally. I've been doing it this way for a few years, also playing the chord for the d-minor false cadence. Never heard anyone else understand it this way. Looking forward to hearing the rest, now. Thanks !! !!! !! !!! !! !!! !! !!!
